' Stabbing affray: We. are beginning to
think that our neighbors of Floienco stand
somewat in need of a an example in the shape
of a murderer bronght to grief al the gallows.
Several shouting affairs have occurred there
within thepa-t nine months, resulting in the
death of some two or three and the wounding
of as many more; and we have now in jail,

Reported Encounter: A report reached
this citv, on Sunday last, that Col Green with
his scouting party of 200 men, upon reaching
the Indian stronghold among the White Moun
tains, was met by a party of 7G0 Indians, when
a leguhir erg lgement ensued; the Cdonel
falling back by degrees, for a distance ofe'ght
miles, with the view of bringing the enemy ouj
upon an open plain. The Indiair-5, bchevinif
that the Colonel was endeavoring to escape,
followed eager'y, and upon reaching the plain
a!jove mentioned, were charged by the troops,
when, terror-stricken at the impetuosity of the
ehure and at the ios3 which they sustained,
thiy scattered in every direction, Several of
he Colonels men were wonnded. The foiego
ing is the story as received by us. The repot t
is notodiual; we will cot, therefore, vouch ftr
its authenticity, bnt, from what was reported
otlieially, regarding the adventures of the Cali
fornia Volunteers, in that region, in 18G5, we
think that the present report is much more than
