hear what it says on the subject :
"Now and then tho females who do a wo

notion d are ready to scratch cut the world's
ryagtbal won t agree with' them. Anna Dick
enson Bis been prowling about in Utah and the
iking ttat risred her most was that women
did not ride well, like men. She is making
war ott pa.rmers and petticoats and wants them,,
abolished, especially with a viaw to introducing
the ne?f method of riding. She has given her
ideas in two garrulous columns about the n.at
tcr. If there is anything indelk ate which
these strong-minded, weak-headed women
hare not suggested it shonid be pointed cut.
They get worse and worse and are gradually
becoming more brazen and indecent. The
whole tea party of them ought to be put to
pounding hemp in some honse of correction
instead of being permitted to fill the minds o
foolish girls with a mass of prurient trash and
insubordination. What with "Jenkins," Geo.
Francis Train, Woman's Rights, and Fisk Jr.,
the din is becoming intolerable,

A letter from William Bradford, the artist ef
the expedition, dated Iviptut, Greenland, July
27th, describes the Eitblinkcn, one of the
largest of the glacier, which is constantly
discharging iraineiiEe icebergs into the sea, the
whole shore of which ia lined with them. He
says: The eea ia doted with these great white
Heating islands, which are often from one to
three hundred feet high. In a- single view
hare seen many hundreds. We were fortunate
enough to witness seren bergs discharge in the
mannr first described, I believe, by Dr. Hayes;
and although we were at one time exposed to
some danger, and lost a part of ocr photo
graphic materials by the wave which rolied
thiity feet high upon the rocks, yet all of the
party escaped without personal accident. 'J he
photographic party heard the crash and saw
the wave coming in time to climb the rocks,
and thus escape being washed into the sea
meeting with no farther mishap ;1iru a gocd
ducking from the crest of the sea. It was a
narrow and providential escape. I was on the
veesel at the time, making a study in oil of the
glacier front, which is two hundred feet high,
ad had we been neaier to the shore, we should
hava been in all probability dashed to piece."
To a people living in a law-r.nd order town
like Tucson, such proceedings as tho3a con
tained in the following, ccnied from the loeal
yf Uo Woodland Mail, will suggest the naces
aity of immediate reform there :
'On Tuesday evening three different build
ings were fired in this town and on Wednesday
night three or four more attempts were made
to barn the place. At last mentioned time
th ruffians commenced operations by placing
a can of powder beneath the ground floor of a
Chinese wash house and blowing up tho insti
tution. The Johns were terribly frightened but
not seriously damaged in person. Half an
hour afterwards fires were kiudled in buildings
situated iu localities some distance apart ru
iftvr hasjt from three to six in number. "
KevT. K. B;ehor cnploys the foll.-wir.
argument in own jenttanoi: of woman's rights:
Man eovrrtih himeelf because h is stronger
and in this world all debated qu- stioag are set
tied sooner or later by force. Moral influence
and public opinion coutrol, because tuey imply
reserved roacs. Iu the rough and tumbia ot
life no man need fear tlu competition of wo
s:a. In a general scminole she hat ail to
lose and little to gain, except a right to scram
ble. In this ru ie world of force aud matter,
strength, when acknowled-ed by weakness,
often becutnus magnanimous, chivalrous, God
like. Butstrength, challenged to a race, asks
and givos no quarter. For woman's sake, we
hate tho very sound of tha words "Woman's
ttighta."

The state ot society is such at Leavenworth
that one of its papers gives this advica : "If
you happen to niaet two men whoformerly
liv"ed in the same town, don't introduce them to
each other, because the chances are in this un
happy coautry, that at least one of them, pro
bably both, did something mean, and ran away,
and don't want to talk about it."
