Important Information concerning
tho registration of Liberty Lonn bonds,
ns glvon out by tho bond dopartment
of tho Federal Rcsorvo Bank of Chi
cago contains tho following quotation
from a letter from tho Treasury de
partment: "With refcrenco to accepting sub
scriptions for bonds to bo registered
in tho names of persons giving only
initials rather than tho full name, 1
havo to say that It is tho Intent of tho
Department, not for Its own sako, but
tor tho sake of holders ot registered
bonds, to havo thorn registered In such
manner ns to cnnbld tho said holders,
or their legal representatives, to dls
poso of thpm In tho simplest and
readiest manner. Bonds issued to
women under their Inltlnls, or under
tho initials ot tjiclr husbands, nro not
readily transfcrnbto In enso ot tho
death of tho holder. I
"Though totters ot administration
would bo issued in tho logal namo of
tho deceased, nnd tho bonds would bo
Inscribed In her namo, under her In
itials, or thoso of her husband, as tho
enso might bo. Tho letters of admin
istration and tho bonds would not
ngrco ns to tlto namo, nnd thorcforo
tho administrator of Mrs. Sarah A.
Smith, say, would havo to provo that
sho and Mrs. Thomas W. Smith (or
Mrs. S. Smith) woro ono and tho samo
porson. It is to avoid troubles ot this
character that tho Department has In
sisted on recolving tho legal namo of
persona subscribing for registered
"Of course, tho Dopartment cannot
rofuso to Issuo bonds under initials If
tho parties Interested Insist upon it,
but It Is requested that you, In all
cases whoro it is posslblo, Insist on
receiving tho full namos of porsons
subscribing for registered bonds."
