What You Will in Suits

"What nre they wcnrlngl" In suits
has censed to be ns Interesting ns
"What arc they showing now?" It hns
come to pass that women demand a
variety of styles and n clinnre to In
dutge Individual tntlc, and manufac
turers have fostered these demands
by replenishing the retailers' stocks
with new developments nf the season's
modes. The story for winter Is nhout
to close and It reveals Hint we may
wear suits having n utriiluliMlne sil
houette or those with fitted wnlsts,
with equal propriety, that retllngote
Rtles hove grown In popularity and
that velvet has made long strides since
the beginning of the season. It In In
great demand for mid-winter. Kxcept
for sport suits the iimnufueturers will
have little more to offer this season,
for they are already engrossed With
suits for spring amhpromlsc more rad
ical departures from the styles of to
day than for many past seasons.
Two suits, distinctly different In
type, but each showing an Interpreta
tion of the long cont "styles, are shown
above. The stately model ar the left
Is made of duvetyn and reflects the In
fluence of the redlngote besides tnklng
cognizance of the widened hip Idea. It
Is trimmed with rat-tall braid and a
few buttons and two very narrow
tucks In the coat, above the hem. In
vite attention to the accuracy of the
tailor's art. A further testimony Is
offered by a front panel that Is cut In
one with the belt and widens abovo
tlir waistline, making a smart diag
onal closing at the left side. A muffler
collar of sealskin hears out the ele
gance of this design and probably
ndds more than a pretty penny to tho
price of the suit.
Sllvertone Is to he credited with
much of the line style which gives as
surance to the wearer of tho suit nt

silver sheen will delight the tourist
and ns shown here Is a model that

The one-pleco frock tins Us advan
tages for the busy women of today,
and now divides honors with the tail
ored salts In the estimation of busi
ness or socially active people. Cer
tain of these onp-plece models were
launched at the beginning of the sea
son under a new and very adequate
name, ns "all-dny dresses." Tills title
describes them and points out their
advantages1 for the womnn whoso nf
fairs give her little time far making
changes of her costume.
The one-piece dress Is developed In
all tho fabrics that nro used for suits,
and In some that are not often used
for suits. In the picture above, n
frock of dark blue tricot Ine demon
strates how effectively this practical
material has been worked up Into a
tailored drees that Is churmlngly
graceful and chic. It Is really n mas
terpiece of designing with a panel
down the front from neck to hem, nnd
a new management of the Hides of the
skirt where big patch pockets nro set
on. Below them the material in wide
plnlta simulates a long tunic. The
panel nt the front avoids being too
plain by means of a tuck pet In on a
line with the pockets, ttnd above It
aro pendent silk ornnments. Below
tho tuck, rnund-envered buttons are
set on with tho benutlful accuracy
that Is the glory of tailored clothes.
The waist Is hloused buck and front,
affording n strnlght-llne silhouette.
Buttons ami pendents embellish tho
panel In It, and buttons finish off the
very long and shapely sleeves. This
model has the unusual virtue of look
ing well on almost any figure
Satin furnishes tho best material for
a frock like that at the right. It Is
simply designed, being a three-tier
skirt and a smock with Hitln-covered
buttons nnd tosh by way of adornment.
