JAMES L. PUGH.
A PROSECUTING OFFICER WHO HAS
MADE HIMSELF POPULAR BY BEING
JUST AND FAIR.
James L Pugh was born in Eufaula
Barbour County, Alabama, January
17, 1S62, thirty-six years ago. He
studied law at the University of Vir
ginia and was graduated from the
Georgetown University, tnis city,
and was admitted to the bar in 18S5
Was appointed prosecuting attorney
at the Police Court, November 1891.
This young man is, no doubt, the
most popular prosecuting attorney
that has ever been ai the Court. Hs
fair dealings with prisoners and the
justice he displays have won for him
a host of friends. Mr. Pugh is a
southern man by birth, and his form
er contact with the people, the colored
people in the south, has fully educated
him in their manners and ways. If it
were left with the colored people in
this city, instead of being prosecuting
officer, he would be elevated to a
judgeship. The members of the bar,
to a man, have the highest respect
and admiration for him. Whatever
his politics may be, he never allows it
to enter a case that he is to prosecute.
He is fair, just and honorable. His
manners are pleasing, without the
slightest taint of distaste. He has
instituted many reforms in this Dis
trict, which have been most beneficial
to the community. There is not a
member of the bar but what has a
good word for Mr. Pugh.
