KXCHANOE REVIEW.
New York, October 18.—Trading in the
street and in the stock market clearly demon
strated the independence oj the manipulators
of the street from any and all circumstances
which ought legitimately to have a bearing
upon the real values of securities. Notwith
standing n loss in bank reserves of over $3,000,
--000, and the complete wiping out of the sur
plus, the market today was strong from start
to finish, closing with material gains in many
stocks. The advances were very uniform in
active stocks, but there was a pronounced
movement in the Citizens' Gas of Brooklyn,
which, after retiring to 98, rose to 100%, clos
ing at a gain of 2 per cent, for the day. Final
changes, with the exception noted, were frac
tions only, but almost invariably in the direc
tion of higher prices.

THE LOS ANGELES HERALD: SUNDAY MORNING, OCTOBER 19, 1890.
The Illustrated Annual Herein.
The most acceptable present you can
send to eastern friends is the Illus
trated Annual Herald. There are
forty-eight large pages of fresh and re
liable information about Southern Cali
fornia, including statistical matter of
the greatest value, relating to the cli
mate, crops, population, etc. There are
fifty fine illustrations of local scenes, the
birdseye view of the city of Los Angeles
being alone worth the cost of the publi
cation. No gift would be more appreci
ated in the east than a copy of the An
nual Herald. It may be obtained of
newsdealers, or at the Herald business
office. Price 15 cents per copy.
When purchasing teas or coffees, do
not look for a chromo or a six cent pickle
dish to go with it, but go to H. Jevne's
grocery house, where pure teas and cof
fees at proper values can always be had,
130 and 138 north Spring street.
A Recommendation.
I, the undersigned, being dangerously ill,
applied to Dr. Mtug Chow and was restored to
perfect health, and therefore desire all my
friends to be informed in reference to Dr.
Mtug Chow, tin: t his reputation be not con
cealed; and advise all afflicted ones to repair to
Dr. Mtug Chow's office at No. 641 Upper Main
street and be cured Loono Hino.
