At 10 o'clock yesterday morning a sensational message was received by telephone at police headquarters to the . effect that three men had been killed at Mateo street, between Sixth and Seventh Btreots, by the collapse of a sewer exca vation. The patrol wagon was dis patched to the scene, but fortunately the report was found to be untrue, ft j was, however, not without some founda- | tion, as three men had been buried, but ; were fortunately rescued by their fel- \ ikjw-laborers without serious injury, 1 ,after an hour's hard work. FITZHENRY, Spring Street, second north of Third. 11-2-lm THE LOS ANGELES HERALD: FRIDAY MORNING, NOVEMBER 7, 1890 W. Porter, appeared in court and ac knowledged full and entire satisfaction, whereupon, by consent of the district j at torney , the case was dismissed on pay- I ment of costs, and the defendant was discharged. | On October 16th last, Wiuegar pur- I chased $4 worth of groceries at the store 'of Porter & Hine, on the corner of ! Twelfth and Olive streets, for which he tendered in payment a check upon the University bank for $10, receiving $0 in change. The check was not presented at the j bank for several days, but on being handed in was returned dishonored, j Wiuegar not having any money on de posit there. For some reason, not ex plained, the grocer deferred the matter of filing a complaint against Winegar until yesterday, when the affair was promptly settled and explained. Winegar asserts that he had no inten tion of obtaining money under false pre tenses, as he is in receipt of monthly remittances from his father, a wealthy merchant in the east, and at the time had just received one. He subsequently drew all the money he had on deposit at the University bank, and supposingthat the grocers had cashed his check before that time, did not give the matter further thought. This is being verified every week by those who are using the AEREAN SYSTEM of prac tice, consistins of medicated inhalations and compound oxygen as prescribed by M. HILTON WILLIAMS. M. D. M. C, P. S. 0„ 137 S. Broadway, Los Angeles, Cal. This system of practice is effectual in the cure of Catarrh, Throat .diseases, Bronchitis, Asthma and Consumption. Consumption, like all other diseases of the respiratory organs, is conceded by all scientific and thinking men, to originate from a living germ or parasite. These little baccilli are found floating in the expectorated mucus, and after death adhering to the mucus surfaces lining the air passages. What utter nonsense it is to try to destroy these parasites by giving medicines by the stomach; and yet how easy it is to introduce them into the diseased parts by the Aerean or Inhalation system of practice. Is anything more commou sense? And yet one in every seven die annually because of this mistaken idea; many of whom would be radically and permanently cured had they used the Medicated Inhalations before the disease became too far advanced. Over 100,000 persons have used these medi cated inhalatoiis under our personal direction during the past twenty-four years, and very few of that number have died with lung trouble; and yet quite a large percentage began the treatment simply as a palliative remedy, not thin-ing there was still a possibility of un ab solute cure. In some persons the tuberculous matter exists in the lung* for years, causing more or less dis turbance of the nervous and circulatory sys tems, but the inevitable results are sure to fol low Booner or later; and while that is true it is no le'B true that bad those persons who became the easy victims to this foul destroyer during the early stages of their disease partaken of the benefits to be derived from using the Aerean system of practice, nine-tenths of them might have been permanently cured; and while our climate la probably equal, if not superior to »ny climate in the world, yet all will agree that something more heroic Is required to sill and destroy the living germs found so numorously In tl is diseased tissue of ihe bronchial tubes api lungs, which nothing will kill or destroy equal to the Medicated Inhalations, when prop erly applied. Persons taking thiß treatment can use the remedies at home as well us at our office. Consultation and one application at office free. Those who desire to consult me in regard to their cases had better call at the office for an examination, but if impossible to visit the offlce personally, can write for list of questions and elrrular, both of which will be sent free charge.
