A much mixed embezzlement trial was concluded before Justice Owens and a jury, yeaterday, by the acquittal of Daniel Carlisle, accused by Henry Adams of purloining a gun from him. The trial developed a lot of contradictory statements about the transaction. Although Adams claimed that the gun was stolen by Carlisle, the latter made no attempt to conceal it, but gave it up willingly when the officers called for it. He assert'd, on his part, that Adams borrowed $5 from him, and that he told him he could have the gun when he ie fiaid the loan. The jury accepted Car isle's statement, supported by some corroborative evidence as to the truth of the matter, and returned a verdict of not guilty without much hesitation. The services of the police were invoked yesterday by a woman named Carlisle to secure the letiirn of a gold watch belonging to her daughter, which she claimed had been stolen from her by a barber named E. Clifton. She met Officer Dunn at the corner of Temple and Spring streets during the afternoon, in a great state of excitement, and told him she wanted Clifton arrested. Srie said she knew where he was, and led the officer to a lodging house ou Commercial street near Wilmington, where the young man was found in the hallway, in pos session of the watch and also of the key to Mrs. Carlisle's room. He waß lodged in the city jail, but the story told by the woman seemed so peculiar that the clerk took the precaution of sending the woman and her daughter with Officer Dunn to the district attorney before he would book the barber. The latter ap peared to be considerably under the in fluence of liquor, and remained in jail for an hour. The district attorney re fused to issue a complaint and he was released from custody. A Los Angeles girl had an experience yesterday that she will remember for many a long day to come. She accepted an invitation to go out driving with a young man whom Bhe apparently did not know very well. According to all accounts the man managed to develop a good-sized jag, and as a result he capsized the buggy. Very little could be ascertained in regard to the damage. At all events the girl pic ked herself out of the road and ran for dear life. She was thoroughly scared. She caught the 8 o'clock train at Wyatt station on the Terminal. The girl, who is quite young, related her experience to the conductor and several other sympathizing passengers. She was very much alarmed. As the girl was without money, the conductor paid her fare and gave ber enough money to go to her home, in the vicinity of Westlake park. She is a very pretty brunette, and was evi dently imposed upon. Her face was scratched by the accident, and the blood trickled down her cheeks when she first got on the cars. "Walk Into My Parlor."
