The banking department pt the Stole
of Maryland, J. Dukes Downea com
missioner, has finished Its first annual
roll of honor of the State banks and
trust companies of Maryland. The roll
of honor of the State banks and trust
companies of this State Is a table pre-
fared by the bank commissioner from
he reports of condition made to the
Bute banking department. To secure
a place on the roll of honor a banking
institution must snow surpiua "o "-,
divided profits In excess of Its capital
stock that Is, assuming the capital to
be 100 per cent, the surplus ana prom

words, to be entitled to a place on the
soil of honor an institution must have.
In the form of surplus and profits com
bined, an amount larger than Its cap
ital, and Its numerical order on the roll
Is based upon the percentage of this
amount to Its capital. According to the
last reports of condition to the bank
commissioner, there were In operation
In the State 116 State banks and trust
companies (Including eight branches).
Of these 30 (or about 28 per cent) are
