Aside from the fluctuations In one or two of the specialties to-day specula tion In stocks was a perfunctory affair, out-side Interest being at a minimum. The course of prices appeared to in dicate that leading professional Inter ests were not yet prepared to encour nge the resumption of the upward movement, otherwise the exceptionally favorable statement of our foreign trade statistics for October and' the ten months of the year would undoubtedly have* been made a bullish teat. As It wus.cfforts were again m:ule to revutnp i the Cuban war scare. The advocates of lower prices also professed great con cern over the business prospects ot the granger roads. There was little or no news calculated to afTect prices. Lon don was not mtich of u factor. The mark"t opened Irregular at unimport ant changes in the leading stocks, but soon developed a reactionary tendency. Sugar and the Grangers being the weak features. The selling of the first named was by powerful Interests and was attributable to a desire to depress the general Hat quite an much as that particular stock. Towards mid-day, a buying movement occurred. In "which Pacific Wall roso 2% p?-r cent, the latter half of the Improvement was lost. Sub sequently a special drive at Sugar caused another general decline, the stock. In question dropping 1% per cent. To bacco wju? traded In ex-dlvldend of ^4 per cent, and scored a decline of 2% per cent. Sharp concessions were made In the general list. The market devel oped Increased activity toward the close with prices ruling at the lowest points. The bond market displayed a reac tionary tendency, but declines were fractional. Governments were active and firm on transactions of $200,000. The total sales of stocks to-day were 201.484 shares. Evening Post's London financial ca blegram: This was n blank day -In the stock markets, although the tendency was good except for Americans, which "wore rather dull. It Is believed that a reac I tlon Is ntVcessary to bring in buyers. The dealers here are waiting for a con I formation of the revival of trade in the 1 United States in the form of Increased railway receipts. Mines were tlat on steady realizations in Paris. The fea ture In the money market is a growing possibility of gold going to India through the dearness of money. The rise In exchange to 16!i pcnco will probably induce shipments. The Paris bourse was dull. The feature there Is the sudden notice of heavy withdrawals of Russian deposits from Paris. It is said that the Russian i government was about to proven: a large amount of notes at Che Bank of France for gold required for coinage purposes, and that the bank refused to part with Its gold. Hence the sharp rise In exchange in London. The Berlin market was quiet. BONDS AND STOCK QUOTATIONS. i New U. S. 4s registered 1J3H New U. S. 4s coupon JX9Js I". S. 5s registered T". S. 5s coupon r.
