A CHANGE THAT WILL 1 T PLEASE I " A JJ Made In the "Dewey Day" Arrange- d menta By the Gentral Committee Lut livening. 0 THE SPEAKING PROGRAMME \ Will Be Given from We?t Front of | the City-County Building on j] Chaplino Street G At a meeting of the "Dewey Day" ^ general committee, held last night at the office of Chairman Garvin, the altuntinn u'bb informally. The most important matter broftght up was the location of the stand where the r apeaklng ceremonies will occur, and the committee voted to make a change in the plans that will doubtless meet with general approval. It had been suggested that a large stand be built on i the eaet side of Main street, opposite : the site of the Fort Henry, tablet, In order to give 4,000 or 5,000 people a chance to witness the ceremonies, but this was found to be impracticable, owing to the opposition of the property owners, some of whom refused to allow | the stand to be erected in front of their places. After the committee had dls- ? cussed this phase of the situation it was decided, on unanimous vote of all ^ present, to have the speaking take place from a stand to be erected on the west front of the city-county building on Chapline street, above Sixteenth, where there Is room for the assembling of 10,000 or 15,000 people. Before the com- B; mi t tee took this action several members of the sub-committee on arrangements were called up on the. telephone, and they endorsed the proposed change in C? the arrangements. jn It is proposed to have the actual work ce of placing the Fort Henry tablet in ^ noaitlon, croinsr on while the parade is ?? passing down Main street, and it is pos slble that Admiral Dewey and party gl] will review the parade from thlar point, gc though that la a matter that has not s been decldcd definitely. After the head Hi of the parade has reached the spewing stand'on Chapllne street it is proposed Sc by Grand Marshal White to open up the ranks and, between two lines of G< cheering thousands, backed up by many {Jj other thousands on the sidewalks, the j. admiral and party will ride Jn car- ja rluges to the speaking stand. F. The committee discussed the time of J* the admiral's arrival, and the consensus cc of opinion was that the best train would gr be that on the Baltimore & Ohio arriv- \v ing here at 10:30 p. m. This train leaves Washington about 11 a, m. It Is pro- a! posed that a sub-committee of the com- Ni mlttee on entertainment and reception j * proceed to Cameron and Join the Dewey Jparty. This delegation will be made up gj of both ladies and gentlemen. On ar- Frival here the admiral and party will ^ be escorted to the McLure, and in the G. parlors other members of the reception ?J committee will receive the distinguished B. quests. The** will be occapied by Admlral Dewey and party, visiting con- T. gressman, Gov. Atkinson and others. The committee on committees made gp up a list of mftnes for appointment on the committee on reception and enter- pj talnmerit, about 150 in number, which JJj will be announced later by Chairman st Garvin. This committee is called to meet next Monday evening in the rooms h. of the board of county commissioners w In the county building, when It will ap- jQ point sub-committees and block out its Jo plan of work. ?? As to the time of starting the parade. O. Grand Marshal White said the start would be fixed for 12:30 or 1 o'clock M, .sharp, lie says he will order the line to move at the hour fixed, no matter R< who may not have arrived at his place in line, and will recommend that or; J. ganizutions march to the place of for- j^j matlon at leaat half an hour before the w hour fixed for moving.
