When Chief Ciemans returned from his unsuccessful trip to Pittsburgh Wednesday in scarch of the pair, he expected to land them near Wheeling yesterday morning, but again he was disappointed, and it now transpires that at the very time S the chief was in Pittsburgh looking for = his men, they were within ten miles of Wheeling. The chief Is still*making an effort to locate the men, and qxpects to have them under arrest shortly. John McAndrews, the watchman at the old water works building at the foot of Seventh street, who accompanied the chief to Pittsburgh, did'not gee the pair suspected of the. murder in company with Sweeney, as was erroneously stated yesterday morning. He saw two ' men (the suspects)- in company with ( Henry Campbell, the witness now held at the county Jail, who .passed the old water works building Friduy, Saturday and Sunday.
