Ross of the Baltimore Conference preached, and chose for his subject "The Cleansing of the Leper," Mark 1st, 40.41, and 42. He presented Christ as the great cleanser. Leprosy as a loathsome and Incurable disease that made the person affected wholly unclean, shutting him out from all society?a type of sin, and the Leper himself a type of the sinner. Leprosy like oln is incurable except by the hand of God. As this Leper came to Christ, In earnest and ov^rniclnir sannlns fmih an mimt the Klnuer come H he too would be cleansed. He next dwelt ou the power and ability of Cbrist to save, next His willingness to save, and His compassion as shown by His "touching" tbe Leper and taking upon Himself his unolean> ness. Ho urged sinners to come to Christ just as did this poor Leper and they would And Him the same compassionate Saviour, able and willing to save them, as It was alone through the cleansing power of Christ that we can have communion with the p i. Father and tbe Son. The sermon was delivered in an earnest and impressive manner, and we trust found a lodgement In the hearts ol bis bearers. STRANGE ACTION. Tlie Seeming: Varrow Kscape uf Mr. Caraydou'N Cow. A few days ago a lady and her daughter in this vicinity were strolling In their pasture, enjoying the pleasant breezes while the sight of the living green, as it was nipped by the cows, was attracting attention. In a little while a smooth shaved white man appeared /.no nt th? rows, which whs shy at firm, but gentle coaxing bad allayed ber fears and she allowed the m*n to stroke ber hair la a kludly way, when she was near acorner in the fence. Kecomlug more gentle, the man caught ber by the horns, a?d after some struggles, site was quieted. Ho then beld her by one hand on a born, when be put his band in his pocket and drew from it a knife. At this point the lady spoke, and asked bim If he bad bought Mr. Gray don's oowr. The sound oi ber voice sbocked and ?cared bim. Immediately relinquishing his bold ou the cow, be turned around, faciDg the ladles, and saldr "No, ma'm ; i ijave not." FHe Immediately began to burn the wind, by adding apace between htm ami the ladles whom be bad not seen unlit tb6y speke. This 1b the story as we beard it. Toe read er's Imagination roum oe as goou ha our own. But It aeems that no good wh? Intended, and that possibly Mr. Uraydon would now be out "" ' of a cow. The loving parents, whose heart emotions at the giving away of their beloved daughter, made this h memorable occasion for that household. One of Its prettiest jewels was going uwmy to shine in other hearts and homes. She was the first to go out from beneath the parental roof, nnd the breaking of the family circle was an afl'ecting circumstance. When all the guests had supped and broken the bread, the hour for the departure of the joung people had arrived. Bidding an affectionate adieu to nil, tbe newly married pair left not only with tbe good wishes of every guest, but they carried ' with them the blessing of a mother's prayers and the benediction of a devoted father. 1 Associated with this marriage there was much which may be said to have been sug, gestive. and sometimes even a layman would preach. For instance: Tbe closed blinds whloh shut out the light of the sun, may have been , to show that tiie iovlng couple had shut out the world from participation in meirjujo ?uu ! sorrows, and that they would henceforth live , in the love and light of each other's eyes. Ineffectual flreB before the light of day, even as callousness Is overpowered by the light whlcb-comes from that Great Source to which the humblest subject as well as the greatest monarch must sooner or later look for solace I and comfort. I The varying shades of light and shadow in the room may have been symbolic of our ' future probation on eanb. Into the pAtb [ of each of us some sunshine and some shadow must fall. The very pictures on the walls io silence looked approvingly, and lent their blessing . In breaking one family circle to organize a new and happy home. ! The Instrumental prelude reminded us of . the delightful symphonies which are said to greet the ear and iuvitu the soul to bllsB be. yond the Itlver. The flowers and their thorns were to teach [ us that there were on earth good and evil? . happiness and misery. The fragrance of the beautiful blooms, re. minded us that , ?"the Incense In the air springs from the speechless sod i Which has no other offering or way to worship God." The evergreens that led up the stairway, were meant to tench lis that life everlasting la reached In the Celestial city only by h 1 struggle and with the aid of Him whoalways stands ready to lend a helping hand to those ' who seek a home In paradise. Without a great chance In the weather conditions very soon, a reduction In colton acreage In this part of the country Is qulie probable. Some of those who planted three weeks , ago are plowing up and planting over, the seed having rotted. Those were able to get seed for that purpose, but unless the weather becomes much warmer seed rotting may become general, and all needing them could not be supplied. Since it cleared up It Is seen that durirgour late cold spell, frost or some other blighting agency had been abroad, as the tips of the leaves on some of the trees and other vegetation were nipped.
