-APA -%d70.,THE ADVERTISER. - FROf -THE TRUSTEES OF THE BAP. TIST SCHOOLS, IN GREENWOOD, TWothe Baptistpeaohiintion in S. C. - BELovED BrBmRENu:-The success which has I1ready attended the efforts made by us, in connection with other members of our de nomination, encourages us to enlarge our plans, and present them to you, for your ap ro'al, co-operation and assistance. PRESENT STATE OF OUR INSTITUTIONS. Both have prospered, and are now pros pering to a degree which justified us in the belief, that, what was at first an experiment is now a successful accomplishment. The pln of Education as adopted in the Male - Aiademy, has been so extended as to em brace a course of military tactics and civil engineering, in connectior with the former iberal English and Classical course. The Classical department is under the su pervision of Mr. H. M. HOLTZCLAV, A. M., a graduate of Mercer University, (Ga.) and the Military department under that of Mr. JAMEs A. WAL.KER, a graduate of the Citadel Acad emy; Charleston. Our acquaintance with -ehihese gentlemen has confirmed the high 7 ftestimonials with which they came among us. "The Female Academy, of which Rev. C. A. RAntoxD, is Principal, is now enjoying an unusual degree of prosperity. The number of students is large and daily increasing. The course of study has, during the past year, been much elevated, and the facilities for imparting instruction much increased by the purchase of a magnificent apparatus. There is probably no school in the State better fur. nished with teachers and the appliances of instruction. What we now propose. . 1st. To enlarge our operations, that while continuing to provide for the public, schools of the highest character and controlled by our denom'ination, we can at the same times render the advantages to be derived from them, accessible to all, even the poorest Bap tsts in our State. Especially do we wish to provide for the education of the children of poor Baptist preachers, so that they may be educated gratuitously. We have already, by the recent resolutions of our board of Trus , thrown open our Academies to such hildren of the above class, as may at time ..,ish to enter. We propose also to admit ,upon the same terms, orphan hildren, whose pdrents were members of our churches. 2d. We also wish to furnish for young ntlemen and ladies, advantages similar to funished by Normal Schools at the fNorth and in Europe: where such of our 9n ed youth as desire it, can fit themselves rofession of teaching; and thaut, :s siossible obiate the necessity of being -epe pon thegj~rth, for " Teachers uanufac red ex resshly for a Southernmr In order to aecbmplish thes .jcts~4 we bielieve to be as highl brethren generally, as by ourse s,.we -av * : 1- eil a-Lay-our plans before tihem .and soIliLit their co-operation in the following measurec: 1st. To secure by contribution the sum~of $15,000,- to beinvested in buildings, &e., which when ad'ded to that already expended, wvill giv6eus $25,000 worth of buildings and - apperteneinees. -2nd.- To raise by the same method, an amount sufficient to form a permanent fund, to be held and controlled by the Edgefield ~Baptist Association, the interest only of ~which shall be expended in boarding those porBaptist children, who are receiving in 3rd. To use their influence, that those of our denomination, wvho are able to pay for * the education of their children, may be in duced to patronize our schools, if on inquiry, they are found worthy of patrona:ge. We can thus dispense with a fund for thec p:-y ment of the salarie~s of our teachers, expe elence having already satisfied us that where thei8uldings and appurtenances are furnish ed, the 1I"'me of a prosperous school is abun dantly sufficn.t to meet all its expenses. In order to br.., thme subject more inmniedi ately before you, "' have solicited and se cured the services of 1tw. JAMEs M. Cun.Es, (for several years past the presidenat of our Board of Trustees,) as Agent, a' vthom we refer you for any further explanatiw, respect ing our plans. Greenwood, February 11th 1851. The Africa's adlvices which were received here this morning, reporting a further decline of id in American Cotton, with a dull and inactive market, caused our market to open without ani mnation, and in the course of the day, prices gave way 4 est. on rates current at the close of last week. 108 bales changed hands at 94 to 11 [e. 2'or the Southern Congress. Mr. EDITOR: I offer for the consideration of the voters of this Congressional District, Col. F. WV. PcICENS and DRAYTON NANCE, Esq., as candidates to represent it in the Southern Congress. They are gentlemen of ripe experience, of tried patriotism, and united to the State by the highest and holiest ties. These gentlemen wvould possess sonme ad vantages from their attendance upon the Nashville Convention above many others, no less worthy and qualified in other respects. A VoTER. DED, in Laurens District, S. C., Sunday even ing, the 9th instant, of Typhoid Pneumonia, Miss LAVINIA E. TEAGUE, aged about 17 years, youngest daughter of Elijah Teague. In the priic and buoyancy of youth, this young lady has been cut down and consigned to the tomb, and fond parents, brothers and sisters are left to mourn her untimely departure; but we trust that what is apparently their loss is her gain. Oh I how trying it would be to part with near and dear ones, did we not feel that they go home to the bosom of the Saviour. "Jesus can make a dying bed, Feel soft as downy pillows are - While on his breast I lean my head, And breath my life out sweetly there." DIED. at Hamburg, on Tuesday niglit, the 4th inst., of Pneumonia, SUaTRza M. GRIFFIN, in the 29th year of his age. Mr. GRIaFFIN was a planter in the neighbor nood of Cambridge, and was on a visit to Ham burg, at the time of his death. He was a young mant of great worth and excellence of character. A cheerful companion. he won the esteem of all his associates; of a kindly disposition, he was much beloved by his friends and relations. He has been cut down in the spring-time of life, in the bloom of health and prosperity, and in view of bright anticipations and future usefullness. MAARUAL,-Dear Sir: In ompli anee with your request, I make this simple state ment of facts. My boy Daniel stuck a thorn in his foot about the first of last.JunetheAthorn was extracted, and no more thought of it fofr15. or 20 days, his foot then began to s*ef.and in a few days it was opened. It diseharged a large quantity of matter. The discharge continued for eight days, and then ceased. 'Ris foot then re-commenced swelling and extended p his leg, thigh, and hip, with violent pain. He ,thcnhe gan to spit from his lungs. mattes similar to-that discharged from the abscess on his foot,. Ithen called in medical aid, and from the remedic used, he was alternately better and worse for:4ight'or ten weeks. During this time a large abscess formed upon the hip, the discharge was laro, and as soon as it ceased, a general swelling of leg. thigh and breast commenced, which wasvery hard to the touch, and at times experienced muelt difficulty in swallowing. Medical aid- seemed ot no further avail, and was discontinued. - L-then had recourse to your "Ma gical Pain Eradi.eatqr .. In forty-eight hours, from the time I comimeed its use, his foot began to soften; the swelling on his hip and breast subsided, and I anr pleased lUb say he is note well. f again used your remedy in a ease of Neu, ralgia, with great success, giving immediate ro lief. I have tried it also for Tooth-Ache, with my youngest child, with entire suce'. From the success I have had in -the-use of your " Magical Pain Eradicator," I have.no esi tation in recommending it to the public. Yours truly \.W. HUGHES."
