SUPERIOR TO PERUVIAN GUANO!
SUPER-PHOSPHATE OF LIME,
FOR COTTON, TOBACCO, WHEAT, CORN, &c.
Composed of Dried Blood, Bones, Sulphuric Acid, Peruvian Guano and Sul
phate of Ammonia.
One hundred pounds of the Nitrogenised Super-Phosphate will equal in effect and
lasting powers, One hundred and Eighty-five pounds of the best Peruvian Guano.
Produces HEAVIER BoI.LS OF COTTON, and greater WEIGHT OF WHEAT and other
Grain, per bushel, than Peruvian Guano. It also PREVEN'rs RUST.
The following are among the numerous Certificates received
by Prof J J. Nlapes.
COLUMBIA, S. C., Sept. 20, 1859.
J. J. MAPES, Esq.-Dear Sir: I have very great pleasure in writing you to'uehing
the effects of your Super-Phosphate of Lime on our Cotton crop. Having tested it
againstfour other preparations, and the appearance of the plant is most hopeful and
promising as regards a large and remunerating yield. I feel certain your manure
will give from one hundred to one hundred and thirty pounds of Cotton more per
acre than any other preparation.
It is a remarkable feet that no Rust is seen on the plant where your Manure has
been used, while others show rust more or less; and this is especially the case where
Guano has been used.
And last, though not least, as regards the Planter's interest. I feel certain that
Cotton, from Super-Phosphate, will ceighL much heavicr than from any other prepara
tion; in this particular I believe that Phosphates are destined to work th'e greatest
possible beneficial revolution in the Cotton growing States of the South.
The plants look most vigorous and luxurious, some being six feet high, and hold
ing from 80 to 110 bolls to each stalk. I am very truly, 11. LOMAS.
The N. C. Dispatch, M'arch, 1859.-"My Wheat crop grown upon Guano,
weighed but fifty-three pounds, while that grown upon !-apes' Phosphates of Lime
weighed fifty-nine to sixty-one pounds per bushel."
DARIEN, CT., Sept. 27th, 1859.
I know of no other Manure that is as good for the Garden or other crops, so far
as I have tried it, as 1ilapes' Nitrogenized Super-Phosphate of Lime. I deem it
better than the best of Guano. Yours, respectfully, NAT'L WEED.
