Ecteef ieid Advertiser WEDNESDAY, JAN.. ll, 1902. . Some judge has now decid ed that a negro's head is a deadly weapon. That's no joke either, but the judge can not make it unlawful for the darkey to carry said weapon. Franklin J. Moses, once the governor of South Caro lina, has been sentenced to 4 months imprisonment for lar ceny of an overcoat. There is not much in a name and office after all, is there ? The Memphis Medical col lege, after experimenting for several weeks, has discover ed an embalming fluid which has great possibilties. What we want is something to keep us from reaching the embalm ing stage. What about you ? It is now about time for the country "weaklies" to begin giving the legislators their val uable advice as to what laws they should enact and repeal and how long they should re main in session. Who' will be first to start the practice ? We wonder why our good neighbors in Georgia and old North Carolina do not follow South Carolina's example and go into the wholesale liquor business ? It is the best pay ing institution in the south, and South Carolina is pushing j the business for all it's worth. Secretar}* of the Treasury Gage has issued orders that if clerks do not pay their just - debts the}' will be discharged. That was a good order, and it should bc enforced in every line of business. A man who will not pay an honest debt when he can do so is worse than a thief. Really, he is a liar, deceiver and a thief. A - person who is a debt dodger will bear watching. This is a strong statement^ but if you will be a close observer,- as you deal with men in this old busy world, you will lind it is a true statement. Why should South Caroli na oppose *'trusts" when she is operating the largest one in the state ? She not only runs the biggest liquor con cern, but does not allow com ' petition. The state's liquor trust sells whiskey at outrage ously high prices, much high er than any other liquor house in operation. Why oppose a trust, when your state sells j the most ruinous, vile, and devil-pleasing fluid ? The fer tilizer and oil trusts do some good, but can any good come out of the dispensaries-ex cept liquor, big salarie- and 1 profits ? We pause for an swer from a non-patronizer ! At the Prien of Suflerlugr. Woman on her way tosemi-invalidism caused by pregnancy suffers much pain and terror. Ignorance prompts ber to suffer alone in silence, and remain io the dark as to the true cause motherhood. Mother's >' riend takes thc doctor's place at her side, and she has no cause for MI interview. Sire is her own doctor, and her modesty is protected. Daily application over the reglen of the breast and above the abdomen, throughout preg nancy, will enable lier to undergo tile period of gestation in a cheerful mood and rest undis turbed. Mother's Friend is a Liniment, and for external use only. It is odorless and will not stain women's pretty fingers, lt would inuecd be shameful if the sacrifice of modesty were necessary to the suc cessful issue of healthy children. All women about to become -nothers need send only to a dr UK stor- ;and for $1.00 secure the prize child birth remedy.
