Mr. Jamison told the writer a *ew days ago that the force of hands at the quarry would be increased at onoe to 175. He brought a score or more with him. We are not alone in regretting that the fish season has opened up cn this market. Every Saturday afternoon the odor from tainted fish permeates the atmosphere. The "louder" they smell the more crazed some colored people seem to be about'them. Mrs. Emily Meriwether die! at her home near Clark's Hill on Friday last aud was buried in Bethlehem cemetery on Saturday, Rev. P. B. Lauham, her pastor, officiating at the funeral. The greater portion of her long life of eighty-eight years'was spent in serving the Master, being one of the pillars of her church and for a long^period the teacher of the Bible clase in the Sunday school. The devotion of this good woman to every duty was beautiful and her influence will live on and on in the lives of those with whom she came in contact. Mrs. Meri wether is survived by three chil dren, Miss Caddie Meriwether, the matron of the S. C. C. I,, be ing a niece of the deceased. Opening of the Session of 1905-06.
