Hollaud Bros. of Ninety Six, ranks among the leadiog music dealers in the state. . On Sunday morning last Mrs. J. H. P. Roper united with the Edgefield Baptist church by let ter from Big Stevens Creek church and Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Hart by letters from the church at Inman, S. C. . Couch has returned to Edgefield to dwell among us, having accepted the position of superintendent of the weave room, which place ho filled so acceptably, when be resided in Edgefield be fore. A German lady of recent widow hood encountered much difficulty in framing an inscription for her dead husband's tombstone. After endless consultations with her friends and neighbors this was the one she selected : "Rest In Peace-Until We Meet Again." Miss Mary Buford will receive this week her large stock of fall millinery which she purchased last week. Reel for a sack of sweet pota toes. They were the finest potatoes that we have seen. One of them was tremendous in size. We wish uow that we had weighed it. Suffice it to say that this potato was suffi ciently large to furnish a "square meal" for seven persons. The after noon that Mr. Reel brought the potatoes to us he sold thirty bush els ou the local marketat 80ceuts per bushel. Who said that the only money crop for the farmer is cotton? Ou Sunday last a special service was h*ld in this building which has been dedi cated to Sunday school work. The venerable and saiutly Rev, J. Handsome young Rjbert Lee Scott, of Clark's Hill, paid us a visit on Monday. He has been spending several days at the homes of Mr. S. B. Mays and Mr. nj, ?>, Lyon. Mr. Scott spent two years at Clemson college giving especial attention to the agricultural course, and has proven the value of such training by the results ob tained faom his farm this year. Ile will make 20 bales of ootton and 150 bushels of corn on a one horse farm. Properly fertilized and properly 'cultivated the hills of Clark's Hill cau be made as pro? ductive as the leyel lands of the Johnstoq-iTrenton section. The fruitgrowing industry is assum ing very Jaree proportions at Clark's Hill. Mr. Scott informed us that 14,455 crates were shipped last season, averaging a net profit of about $1.00 per crate. Large quantities of tomatoes are also shipped. Entered The Baptist Ministry. Mr. G. T. Asbill who resides at Elmwood has definitely decided to become a Baptist rpinister, For several years he has been in a state of indecision but has finally yielded^ making a full surrender to the Master's call. Several years ago Mr. Asbill was a student of the S. C. C. J., during which time he applied himself vrey cloeely. Since leaviug tho institution he has been teaching ii portion of the time. God has blessed him with a noble?if'1, the daughter of Mr. James T. Ou?ts, who will enter heart and soul into his work. Mr. Asbill will leave this a week for the Southern Baptist Theologi cal Sominary at .Louisville, Ky" where he wilj tafee a two?year?' course, thoroughly equipping him self for his life work. The fall term of court convened on Monday with the Hon. G. W Gage as presiding judge. The so licitor, stenographer and other court officials wers at their respect ive poste. The following indictments haw heen acted upou by the grand jury : Jim Padgett, assault with intent to ravish, true bill. This uegpo was carried to the penitentiary to pre vent violence and will be brought to PJdgefield to-day (Tuesday). Carrie Burkhalter, larceny from the field, true bill. J. D. Mess, malicious mischief (crippling dog), no bill. On Monday the case against Mr. W. ?. McHugh, charged with as pault and battery, was disposed of. resulting in an acquittal. N. G. Evans, Esq., rf presented the de fendant. Walter Pressley, Joe Gibson and John Henderson, charged withss ?aultand batiery of high andag grovated nature, plead guilty aud were fined$50each. The fines were promptly paid. . As we go lo prpss on Tuesday the court is engaged with the trial of Jesse Laudford, charged with larceny and robbery. The defen dant was convicted four years ago but was granted a new trial. While in jail awaiting a second trial he escapes and has been recaptured. The Solicitor is assisted by S. M* Smith, Esq., and Hon. J. VV. DeVore aud S. McG. Simkins, Esq., represent the defeudant. 'Reply Prom Supervisor Self.
