They . were guests of Mr. Orlando Shep -jpard while here. Mra. S. T. Adams of Clark's Hill, has been the guest of Mrs. A. A. Wells and Mrs. Jessie Crafton sev eral days this week. She and Mrs. Crafton came to Edgefield Tuesday and Mrs. Adams was very cordially greeted by her many friends here. U. D. C. Hold Splendid Meeting. Tuesday afternoon the U. D. C. held a very interesting meeting at the home of Mrs. J. H. Cantelou on Main street. Several important matters of bus iness were transacted, among them the adoption of the Year Book and the contributing of five cents per member to the South Carolina Room at Richmond. The Chapter decided to have a characteristic or emblematic float in the floral parade during the coming fair, and a committee was appoint ed to arrange it. At the close of the business, Dr. E. P. Jones and Gov. J. C. Shep pard came in to the meeting on in vitation of the hostesses. Dr. Jones introduced Mr. Sheppard in a very felicitous manner, saying that all the ladies knew Mr. Sheppard bet ter than he did and he knew them better than Dr. Jones did, but he was there largely because of his in terest in hearing what Mr. Shep pard would say. MK. SHEPPARD'S ADDRESS. In 1909, in Anderson, there was a reunion of the Red Shirt Brigade jn the city of Anderson, at which Senator Tillman and Mr. Sheppard were the speakers. Mr. Sheppard had with* him a copy of the address which he had made on this great occasion, and read extracts which were of exceed ing great interest to all who were present This exposition of the sub ject was entirely new to many of the members present, but was well known by others, and was enthusi astically received by all. Mr. Sheppard presented a copy of this address to the local chapter, the historian, Mrs. Jones, announc ing that the chapter would have it typewritten and presented to the State historian for safe keeping. We hope that at some early date Mr. Sheppard may have a favorable opportunity to repeat this address before the public at Edgefield and relate to a large concourse of people the large part that Edgetield played in the reconstruction of South Car olina. I Cupid and the Capital City. lt appears that Cupid is making a certain popular hotel in Columbia headquarters, as that hostelry has for some time been a sort of rendez vous for young couples who desire to break away from the .custom of plighting their troths at home and add a touch of romance by mortor ing to the city. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Logan, Mis ses Emmie and Effie Bioadwater, Miss Helen btrom, Paul Cogburn, Wad Allen, Julian Holstein, Wil liam Thurmond, Lee Timmons, Harry Strom and Miss Evelyn Broad I water motored to Columbia Sunday morning and a bright and beautiful day it was, all nature seeming to smile upon them. They partook of an elaborate luucheon in the private dining room of the Jefferson hotel and in the afternoon, according to prearranged plans, Dr. C. E. Burts, called at the ?hotel and officiated at the marriage of Mr. Harry Strom and Miss Evelyn Broadwater which took place in the priyate parlor of the hotel. The bride and groom and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Logan remain ed in Columbia until Monday after noon, when they returned to Edge field. The other members ot the party returned Sunday afternoon. Ail of Edgetield wishes Mr. and Mrs. Strom, both of whom are very popular and widely beloved here, the utmost possible joy aud happi ness. Saturday evening preceding the happy consummation of plans in Columbia Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Broadwater entertained all of the wedding party with an elaborate supper a: their hospitable country home, and Monday evening Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Strom gave an elegant dinner in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Strom. These young people are being showered with con gratulations from their friends. They are planning to soon be "at home" to their friends in the resi dence which Mrs. Emma Logan has been occupying. She will move to the residence of Mr. MY. C. Jack son in Buncombe that has been oc cupied by Mr. Paul Hammond. Civic League Committees.
