The f'ollowing is a correct statementof Cot
ton raised by Stevens & Cureton, on lI acres
af stubble land. which was manured with 400
pounds of Ca,rolina Fertilizer. The following
is the mode of cultivation: It wvas thoroughly
[broken up 12 inches. deep, and laid ofT in rows
1M feet wide, and the Fertilizer applied in the
.lrill, then bedded on it on the 15thrl of May,
and planted the same day, but owing to the
tool and dry weather, did not come up to a
stand until about the 1st of June. First work
ng it was run around with a half shovel and
partially trimmed oat with a hoe. Second
working it was run around with a 3 inch
gruib, 12 inches long, and the middles thrown
ut with a sweep18Sinches wide. One furrow
to a row and thinned to a stand with a hoe
ab)out 12 inches between the stocks, and af
terwards it was ploughed every two weeks
with a sweep 18 inches wide, and hoed each
time, until it was worked five times.
