In raising poultry or stock it snld be the aim of every one to keep it healthy and improve it. You can do it very easily by adopt ing some systematic rules. These may be summed up in brief as follows: Construct your house good and warm so as to avoid damp floors and afford a flood of sunlight. Sun shine is better than medicine. Provide a dusting and scratch ing place, where you can bury wheat and corn, and thus to induce the fowls to take needful exercise. Ow' Provide yourself with good, healthy chickens, none to be over three or four years old, giving one cook to every twelve hens. Give plenty of fresh air at all times of the year, especially in summer Give plenty of fresh water daily and never allow the fowls to go thirsty. Feed them systematically, two or three times a day, and scatter the food, so that they can't eat too fast or without proper exercise. Do not feed more than they will eat up clean, or they will get tired of that kind of feed. Give them a variety of both dry and cooked food ; a mixture of cooked meal and vegetables is an excellent thing for their morning meaL Give soft feed in the morning, and the whole grain at night, ex cept a little wheat or cracked corn placed in the scratching place to give them exercise during the day. Above all things keep the hen house clean and well ventilated. Do not crowd too many in one house. If you do, look out for disease. -Use carbolic powder in the dust Sing bins occasionally to destroy lice. Wash your i-oosts and bottom of laying nests with white wash once a week in summer, and once a month in winter. Let the old and young have as large a range as possible-the lar ger the better. Don't breed too many kinds of fowls at the same time unless you are going into the business. Three or four will give you your hands *full. Introduce new blood into your Astock every year or so, by either ~'r--uying a cockerel or sittings of eggs from some reliable breeder. Ioi buying birds or eggs go to some reliable breeder who has his reputation at stake. You may have to pay a little more for birds, but you can depend on what you get. Culls are not cheap at any time. Save the best birds for next year's breeding, and send the oth *ers to market.. In shipping fancy poultry to market send it dressed. [Poultry ENation. THE USES OF LEYIONS. The lemon tree is a native of Asia although. it is cultivated in italy, Por tugal and in the South of France. In Europe, however, it seldom exceeds the dimensions of the smallest tree, while in its native State it grows to over sixty feet in height. Every part of this tree is valuable in medicine, though we rarely employ any of it but its fruit. that is the lewon itself. *And every one knows how to employ this, as in lemonade : To squeeze the juice into cold water-this is the *shortest way ; or to cut it in slices and let it soak in cold wate-r or to cut it in slices and then boil it. Either way is good. Lemo, nade is one of the best and s::fest drinks fur any person, *wherber in healthi or not. It ia suit able to all stomnaeb diseases, is excel lent in sickness-in eases of jaundice, ranvel, liver comiplaints, inammWation specifie against worm and skin com-. ~plaints. The pippins, erushed, may I .also be used with water and sugar, and :aken as a drink. Lemon juice isth .,est antiscorbuticeremnedy known, I It not only cu-es this disease, but1 *prevents it. Sailors make a daily use of is for this purpose W~e advise every one to rub their gums daily. with lemon juice, to keep them in health: The hands and nails are also kept clean, white, soft and supple by the daily use of lemon instead of soap.3 It also prevents chilblains. Le'monsI are used in intermittent fever, mixed with strong, bot, black coffee. with out sugar. Neuralgia may be cured by rubbing the part aff.eted with a cut lemon. It is valuable also to cure warts, and to destroy dandroff on the head by rubbing the roots of ti.e hair with it. In fact, its uses are manifold, and the more we employ it internally, the better we shall be our-.! Inles-Exehanoe. TUTT'S PILLS INDORSED BY PHYSICIANS, CLERGYMEN, AND THE AFFLICTED EVERYWHERE.
