ship existing between the two men, ho
was turned over to Mr. .Scarborough, ll
was later reported to the authorities thal
Stuckey was not being used as a convict,
hut wiis really having a pretty good
time. It is alleged that ht was actually
boarding with Mr. Scarborough and pay
ing for it. Aetilig upon these reports,
thu superintendent of thu board of di
rectors ordered Stuckey to be brought
back to the penitentiary. LIO is now in
that institution again in stripes and at
work in tho commissary department."

John Olearuoy, two milos from hore,
last night without warning, but with
loud creakings, sank into tho ground up

row oscapo. The homo was located in a
bowl-like depression, the ground around
it rising lo a rim, as it were, and water
had gathered in this depression about
tho house until it was two feet dee]?.
Suddenly, while the family were at
supper, a tumbling noise was heard and
tlie house shook. Thc family rushed
out and the house sank immediately.
Ono end was caught on a projecting tree,
while the rest, with the furniture, etc.,
was buried fifty feet underground.
There is great sympathy for the family,
and funds will be raised for their relief.

creased, and it was found surely patho
genic for thc rats when eaten. In addi

tory, trials were made in a large number
of farms, warehouses and other places
infested by rats, lt is reported that in
