BoardeU, near Oak way, and placed his cold, steely hand on that bravo old heart and bade it cease to beat. Mr. Bear den had been ill for some time, and his near friends wore not surprised when the end came. Mr. Dearden had just passed his Stub year. To bo exact, ho "reached his suth year on Aug. 30, this year. Ho was a son of the old Confederacy, and had served in the Civil War un der thc command of the best gen erals; and many were tho interesting stories ho told me of his experi ences during tho dark days of thc sixties. Ho had an unusual memory, nerves of si etd and a cool head. In his going oui tho immediate family has losi a husband and father (lint thoy eau never folget. The place ho hold in ihf hearts of Iiis Oakway friends eau never ho lilied by another - mu! Oconee has lost one of her best i itizons. Mr. I'carden was a friend and nolgbor worth while, and In his quiet end unassuming way he was ever ready to help those in need. Tho good advice ho hold for the young was like that of pure gold because ho bad tried oui the different roads of life und knew what paid him best. Though ho oiien strayed into forbid den wey.;, he turned huck to tho path of righi always, shortly before he died ho said the way was clear, and that he was going to meet the blessed Nazarene who once suffered for him. 1 had several personal talks with Mr. Dearden and he gave mc most of his life's history. Some how wo were attached lo each oilier. 1 took him oui on his last ride, and he gave mo advice that 1 shall not soon for get. 1 shall ever hold sacred tho con fidence ho placed in me, and in the days lo come, whoa tall, rank grass shall have grown on his grave over his manly breast, I shall reverence his men.orv and not ferset the trust ho gnvo into ny keeping. As ' said before, ho oft made mis takes, but ho was ready lo admit them and repent. And I believe that thc sad-faced ango] whoso duty it was io write his errors down one day smiled on the poor, repentant heart and look up tho blotter of forgive ness and cancelled tho page of sin, and throw it Into Hie waste-basket of forgetfulness. (>!!?. proof of Oakway s love for )iim was the weight of Howers that wi ... pim .-I on and around his casket ni ho Dineral service, which was ItlCted by Kev. L 1!. Kaines, of Long Creek.
