YeaR1s ago when South Carolina went out of the union, and for weeks was alone in the seeession.moveient, she was hailed as "The Republic of South Carolina." She was a glorious commonwealth then. She is an un constitutional monarchy now, and has a king, and his nanie is Tillman. During the recent session of the legislature, King Tillman named the bills that should be passed and those that should be defeated. His orders were obey,ed implicitly. Ho spoke through his lieutenats who occupied places on the floor of the House,. and his followers were as obedient as are the soldiers of a well, disciplined vrny. There were a few Carolinians of the ld school in the legislature, and they, f coarse, refused. to, pay any atten bion to ordera emanating from the of lice of the executive. They were sat upon emphatically and made to real ize how powerless they were. It is alleged that when committees refised to report bills in accordance with King Tillman's wishes they were io reconstructed that they readily 30m11plied with his wishes. The rule of King Tillnan will eventually prove as disastrous to the people of South Carolina as was that LA the 'llacks and carpet-baggers. If a change does not soon take place the State will again pass into the control r>f the blacks, there to remain until another generation shall have suffer ed for the sins of their fathers. Savannah News. How Slver got 1into eirculatlon. The government began buying sil ver at $1. 14 an ounce, and coining it into dollars, and up to date the mint has struk 417,947,485 of these pieces. No one wanted these coins, and they would all be in the treasury vaults to day, rave a few specimens taken by collectors, only for the free delivery section of the law. Under this any man who had money to pay in Colora do or Texas or Oregan or other dis taut muarket could pay over his green backs to the sub-treasury in New York, Boston or Philadelphia and have the legal tender silver dollars 1-livered to his distant creditor free if expenses to himself, thus saving the cost of exchange. In this way 92,893,436 have gone into circulation' or have left the treasuiry, for once out there was no provision for the cost of their returii. The governiuent has now on hand 355,054,049 of these which no one wants for any purpose whatever. As silver is nowv woth only about 831 cents an ounce all that these have cost over thatt sum has been lost to the public trealsui N. Y. Journil of Coninierce. The Anti-Cleveland;tes think the :>pposition to Cleveland prior to his liominiation ought not to be consider L-d by the Pr-esident in making ap pomIItments for South Caro lina.
