There's precious little iu the verses

PL A NE, BY ALL ME A NS!
Several mouths ago a friend promised
to give us an estimate of tho probable
coat of planking Russell Strset from
Mcroney's corner to the depot. Our
frieud must have forgotten his promise,
but Oraugeburgers aro beginning to be
. lievc that a plank road belwoeu the
.points named is a necessity. Here we
ore, a growing, prosperous town, one of
the most prosperous arid {growing iu tho
Stste, and yo!. our principal thoroughfare
is generally in a eouditiou which would
disgrace a respectable swamp afior a
spring ,;frcah." We arc ashamed,
actually, to have a stranger puss through
that part of tho town. The only won
der is that or tines and flamingoes nml
^?Other long logged birds don't go to
house-keeping on tho banks, ol llmsell
"Greek." Wu shall have snipe shooting
there next year if our city grandfathers
don't stir themselves.
Now a little energy, a little pluck, a
/little perseverance and a little iudspen
? dunce on tho part of the Town Council
'would remedy all this. The Mayor
;and Aldermen were elected to do
the town's business?-why don't they
do it? Of -course -such a plank
rroad would -cost something and pro
tbably a good deal, and of course the
<ola fogies would grumble. Rut Irl them
gi'Utnb'U?they always do. Reside, it
)]|leascs them and it don't hurt in/b td/.
