There has b.-on quito an interesting se
ries of meetings held in Orangcburg Baptist
Cburob lately, which resulted in the conver
sion and Baptism of five j'oung persons.
The sermon of Mr. Hartley on last sabbath
evening, was a matter of fact ono,
und reached the heart of every (otic in the
congregation, who had a heart not harder
than adamant. We never heard a sermon
more attentively listened to by so large a
congregation. Mr. Norris, the beloved
Pastor, is indefatigable ia his labors to
build up his house of God.
A NEW STORE AM) NEW GOODS?
Tho new storo recently oree'ed by Mr.
W. A. Mcroucy, to the North of his hotel,
has been opened by Mr. ?. W. Baxter, who
proposes lo soil groceries bo cheap as (o
preclude the possibility or a man's s.arving,
who earns ten cents a day. In tho way of
groceries, he has from a sardine up to a
bogheads of bacon?ami if you should want
anything smaller or larger in thai line,
why, he proposes to let you have it. Just
make your wants known. That's what's the
matter with Willie. Mr. Meroncy, who
can sell you a barrel of (lour, side of bacon,
barrel of whiskey, etc , ns quick as any
other man, and take your money for it, is
Mr. Baxter's chief coadjutor, and things
must go on right?p id that's the way the
money goes, pop goes the weasel." Tobe
short, Mr. Baxter means business, and
those who are doubtful in that point, can
have their minds made easy by reading his
Advertisement in another colunia. Josophus
tells us that in his day the waiters OfSiloam
were both sweet and aboundi'it, but Willi j
B .vier says that if that goal man wore
al'vc to-day he would Mircly pronouiic? in
favor of bis liquors. If that ain't en >ujh to
satisfy ?hq skeptical then, then?well, go
and taste for yourselves.
