A NOBLE PURPOSE
A GLORIOUS RESULT.
THERE ARE AS MANY ROADS TO FAME AND FOR?
TUNE as there were gateways to the ancient Thebes.
Four ambitions warrior is for carrying his way with the
sabre; your aspiring politician for scheming his way by
Intrigue and consummate art But there is one grand
broad path to the goal, along which nothing base can
travel. It ls the path set apart for the march of talent,
energy, and noble purpose; and though full of obstacles,
lt contains none that a brave man cannot surmount
This fact has been exemplified in innumerable in?
stances, but iii few more forcibly than in the rise and
progress of DR, HOOFLAND'S GERMAN BITTERS.
For over fifteen years its course has been onward and
upward, scattering blessings at every step until lt now

FROM THE HON. THOMAS B. FLORENCE.
WASHINGTON, January l, 1864.
Gentlemen :-Having it?ted it verbally to yon. I have
no hesitation in writing the fact that I experienced
marked benefit from your Hoofland's German Bitters.
During a long and tedious session of Congress, pressing
and onerous duties nearly prostrated me. A kind friend
suggested the use of the preparation I have named, I
took his advice, and the result was improvement of
health, renewed energy, and that particular relief I so
mach needed snd obtained. Others may be similarly
advantaged, if they desire to be.
Truly your friend, THOMAS B. FLORENCE.
From Rev. W. D. Beigfried, Pastor of Twelfth Baptist
PHILADELPHIA, December 36, 1863.- Messrs. Jones A
Evans-Gentlemen :-I have recently been laboring un?
der the distressing effects of indigestion, accompanied
by a prostration of the nervous system. Numerous
remedies were recommended by friends and some ol
them tested, but without relief. Your Eoofland's Ger?
man Bitters were recommended by persons who had
tried them, and whose favorable mention of the Bitters
Induced me also to try them. I must confess that I had
an aversion to patent medicines, from the "thousand
and one" quack "Bitters," whose only aim seems to be
to palm off sweetened and drugged liquor upon the com?
munity, in a sly way; and the tendency of which, I
fear, is to make many a confirmed drunkard. Upon
learning that yours was really a medicinal preparation,
I took lt with happy effect. Its action not only upon
the stomach but upon the nervous system, was prompt
and gratifying. I feel that I have derived great and per
manent benefit from the use of a few bottles. Very res
pectfully yours. W. D. BEIGFRIED,
