tice thus :
The declino In the market for Batter noted la our last
report has steadily continued, and we note a lurther
average declino ot five cents per pound daring the week.
The receipts of State Butter aro falling off gradually, but
Ano marks of Wo.tern are taking its place and preising
priciis down, so that ero long shippers and consumers
will be enabled to obtain their supplies of Batter at
prices within tho ranga of seaton. The total receipts of
Butter for the week endi.-i g this dsy aro 6680 packages.
Tho demand tor butter at the close of tho week's trade
Is active at reduced rates, but the tendency to a much
lower range of i rices continue?, and, re-Ivers are
prompt iu meeting the views of buyers, m recognition
of the certainty of the event. Yellow grass Butter Is
mach laqulced for, for shipment lo Southern ports, and
dui ing toe coming week, the imitable color for the pur
pose will be plaoed In market; bat at the prices now
current ssles will be limited, and stock will accumulate
unsold. California shippers aro usually la the market
for first-grass Butter, but the advices from ban Francis
co show a dull, heavy, and depressed market for Eastern
Butter, with a large surplus of old crop left over-while
at tue same timo the moke of california Butter Is un
usually large and of very superior quality, owing to the
Improvement and increase of the dairy interest to that
State. Theiefore a large reduction in the current rates
of Butter will be required by shippers before tbat grade
can be prosecuted to any extent. Dairymen of tb?s
State, and the West and country operators, may as well
note the fsct, that the only wey that is left them to sus
tain the exorbitant tates of the past two seasons is to
held the stock at home, while the propriety of that
courso is rather doubtful.
The stock of old crop Cheese now in this market 1* in
small compass, and 1B firmly held at quotation?, with
. sufficient demand to show t- at the stock will all be soon
taken. New crop Cheese, fodder make, is arriving mort
freely, the bulk of which, -being of Inferior quality,
> moves slowly, and at redurod rates. Orsnge Count]
> Skimmed is also in larger receipt, but the low quality
causes corresponding prices, wbh light demand.
