MOBILE. Muv 14.-COTTON-Tho market opened this I
morning with a fair demand, which resulted in eales of |
160 bales at Saturday's prices. About mid-day the nu
favorable news from Liverpool to the 3d inat. waa re
ceived, and buyers immediately wltbdrow from the
market, which closed flat, and with prices nomiual. The
condition of the Manchester market, togetbor with the
London, Liverpool and Paris Rechange, seems to indi
cate a state of foaling bordering on a panic, and groat
apprehension of a general war in Fnrope. With the
ntengro nowa at our command, it is difficult to toll what
will bo the result of the war preparations in Austria,
Prussia and Italy, but as lung as the present threaten
ing cloud overhangs that country, we must bo prepared I
to witness violent fluctuations in tho price of Cotton |
and a steady riso in Hold ou this sido.
MoNETABT AND FINANCIAL -The warlike nows from I
Europe, received this morning, has tended t-> increase
the distrust in Sterling credits, and caused a HI ill |

NEW ORLEANS, May 13.-COTTON-We noticed In
our last report that early in tho day, yesterday, tome
purchuca wero made quite as low as on Thursday, but
after the demand was developed figures wore paid which
indicated a recovery of lo per lb of the previous de
cline. To-day'a justness baa been still more in favor of
faotora. There was only a moderate supply offering,
and it was held at figures 1 to 2c higher than yea ter
day's curroucy. The do<uand, however, continued fair,
and although the movement was checked by the strin
gent pretensions of factors, yet the sales summed up
1SUU bales, making an aggregate for tho past two days el
6U00 bales. Ten brokers participated In tho business.
We now quote ordinary st 20 to 28c; good ordinary at
SO to 32c: low middling at 33 to 31 , and middling at 36
to -. Those figures show a further improvement oi le
per lb In good ordinary to middling. The demand run
mostly on low middling to middling, and somo brokers |
stated that they could not find low middling at ado.
The accounts from tho country and the falling off In the |
receipts confirm tht> confidence of factors.

to 130'i te 130/?' being fairly met with cash Gold.
The extra demand for Exchange, at full rates and
indirectly for Gold), growing out of the news, baa refer
ence moro to tho critical atate of the Cotton trade at
Liverpool than to tbo political advices or tho receipts of
U. 8. 6-20S. The latter make no great impression on
the market. They probably amounted to-day to $500,
000 or $700,000, and the Bonds woro immediately taken
up at the Stock Exchange and by the great dealers on
Wall-a'treotat 101 ,';(q)l0i J.'^ioi *,' ox coupon, or within
,Va>>i per cent of the prit- on Haturday. The new Is
! nues of 1864-66 wore maintained at 102010'?', per cent.
It la believed here that the weak credit of the now limit
ed Finance and Banking Companies lu London haa lu
part led to the advance of interest by the Bank of Eng
land. The discount demand has of late been thrown
heavily upon the great establishment, as well from this
causo aa from tue Immen se speculation in the Cotton
trade at Liverpool and Manchoater.
