FAIS AND TABLEAUX.-The famo of the tableaux vivants of Thursday night went abroad, and ac cordingly a largo number of spectators eagerly waited the raising of tho curtain last night. Tho music helped to beguile the time in the mean while. The fair ladies promenaded the hall, as sisted through the throng by the considerate and timely support of thoir cavaliers. Beautiful young ladies went about soliciting "chances" to all kinds of fancy knick-knacks. Pretty little misses offered "grabs," at very moderato Bums, in United States currency. Soda water, ice cream, lemonade, otc, wore in large demand. The regu lar "tables" were very tastily arranged and decorated, and the fair marchandes attracted a large custom. The Apatalascope, as usual, drew well, HIIOwing the favorito counterparts of lato military heroes. The Cuma-n Sybil had to yieU1 to the progress of the age, soo herself en tit si y dethroned, and her time-honored grotto metamorphosed into a post?nico. Tho postal facilities are marvellous. We never "pass without hearing our name called: "Here is a letter for you." We have no such luck - at Mr. STAHLE*: G. Tiiorr's shop. But all this time tho children have J?ocn crowd ing' toward the stage, waiting for the tableaux. The curtain rises, et voi la No. 1. ''Scene in a Harom." The group coneistod of three figures : a poor devil of a mortal, the devil, and the guardian angel. Tho first two were engagod rattling the dice-the stake being tbo unfortnnato man's sonl. The devil looks very devilish indeed, as much as to say : "Nover mind, I shall get you at last." [No pun intended on the devil's boots.] Tho angel exerts a benign, counteracting influence by her (?) presence. This Bame angel, in our opinion, was the moat perfect success of all tho corporato pictures thus far pre sented. When I arrived there, found tho defendant with nothing in the world the matter with him. The boy Dobson hal looed murder several times, and I arrested him. Thero was a very large crowd, but nothing doing that I saw. Bofondant made no r?sistance." Dobson, sworn, stated that "last night in King street, defendant stopped me, and tried to throw mc, and choked me. I was going home; had said nothing to him, but was minding my own busi ness. Mr. JONES heard de fendant, Washington, tulla boy as soon as the word "go to dinner" is given, you take that bag of lime awav. JONES told me-I followed, and found defendants with the bag in their possession, try ing to sell it to another man; had* them arrested; have missed things very often." Clem Jones, sworn. "Heard defendant tell Ro bert to give this old man this bag of lime when all went to dinner. He got the bag, but in the meantime I had filled the bag with sand and brick-bats. Tho Court : found the defendants guilty, and sentenced A. Buokingham to fifteen dava' hard labor, and Geo. Washington to twenty days' hard labor. U. 8, vs. James Wood, colored.-Assaulting police.- SAMUEL MATTHEWS, sworn, stated that "yesterday at corner of Tradd and Legare streets, where I keep ?store, between nine and ten P. M., the defendant was one of the instigators of a row, to get a prisoner from tho police. The P. M. re ceived a very severe blow from one of the party; in the meantime they assaulted the houao next to me with rocks. The defendant was apparently the leader in all this, and the policeman ran into my house for protection. The defendant, with some others, assaulted my house with rooks, smashing in the door and windows. One of the rocks passed through the window and struck mo on the leg. Befendant came into my store this morning, and I had him arrested for his acts yes terday. I knew him as soon as I Baw him. J. COOK, Policeman, sworn. Yesterday morning I went with another man to take the defendant in charge, and going along he used violent languago, and called to others ; saw a crowd of colored people coming and we shoved him along, and took him to the Guard House. Mary Buttlohoe, eworn, stated that she lives in the boase with the witness last named, and knows this silk dress to bo hors, and also saw it on de fendant day bofore yesterday. Found guilty, and sentenced to 15 days' hard labor, aubjoct to order of the Post Commander. United States vs. Cn ABI.ES MYEUS, white : Search ing a house without a warrant.-The testimony was copious, but not of sufficient interest to re produce here, seeing that wo are unable to do jus tice to the very expressive gesticulations, violent manipulation and contortions of tho shining countenance of the colored lady who was the com plainant in this case. The Court found the defendant guilty, and or 1 dcred him to pay a fine of $10, or be imprisonod 1 six days. . "Wit-En's BuiianiNO." - This noted framed building, occupying a portion of the square on Broad and Tenth streetB, which was used in Con federate days as the passport and other ofiices, is now being moved to Navy Hill, where it will hereafter be used as a scbool-houso for freedmen. The work of transferring it from ono site to an other is a very difficult one, though the parties having it in hand entertain no doubt of their ability to accomplish it. The tenement, which runa tho longth of tho square from Tenth and Broad to Capitol streets, will have to be sawed into sections in ordor io be moved away. One portion of it has already been cut off, put npon rollers and carried away. This building, it is re membered, was built upon leased ground by tho Confederate Government, and at tho evacuation fell into the hands of t,he Federals as confiscated property. Since its ? possession by the United States Government it bas been used almost ex clusively by the officers of the Freedmon's Bu reau. The foregoing is from the Bichmond Times of the 23d. Many poor fellows, all over tht> South, remember this building to their Borrow. In it wore the several "post" offices of the Confederate Capital. It was one of tho largest circumlocu tion establishments in Bichmond. How not to do it seemed to be the great aim and study of the august officials and clorks who did (?) their busi ness in this large wooden building.
