TUESDAY MORNING. JUNE 26, 18C6.
BTATU ITKMS.
LACHENS, 8. O.-Capt, B. E. HICHAODSOH has just boon
.lectcd Clerk of tho Court o? Common Ploss?or Laurens
District. Thoro wero sevon candidatos.
CHBSTEB 8 O -From the Standard, or Thursday, we
learn that tho detachment of tho 30th alt-sachuselta
Beg?nont Volunteers, on duty at that post for tho last
' _U weeks, has been rollovod by Company ?, 8th llcgl
__t Regulars, uDder command of Lieutenant Colonel
BUBB, C. S. A.
CIUMCHL?II L_B_S__-The Yorkrille inquirer, of
Thursday, saya:
Hie Honor, Chancellor H. D. Lesesne, opened tbo
Conrt of Equtty at this place on M onday, and 1B ii lapo
, slug of many cates that baye been long upon the dock.
' ata. His Honor, we are pleated to see, hat restored to
tho Bench a custom once In voguo in this State, that
.isappeareo when railroads and carriages wero intro
duced Be is travelling to the different Courts in hiB
circuit cn horseback. The circumstance will probably
recall to tho groy hatred members of tho bar many
plessaiit memories of tho primerai period of our juill
.dary.
B_-NWJ__, 8. 0.-The Sentinel of Saturday thus
. speaks of the weather and tho crops in Barnwell Dis
trict:
We have bad an abundance of rain since the month
.f June stt lu. For several days we have had dclif-lit
. ful ?eather, omi at night blankets were not uncomiort
' able Not?__*_ding such weather is calculated to
Injure tho cotton crop, we learn that it la looking well,
ann that blooms and bolls are numerous. The corn
crop li? looking remarkably welland everything in the
- ah ape. of vegetation in the curly part of the week, prom
ised well, even tho grass crop.
__O__B, 8. O.-The Lan caster Lodger Bays : Wo
are glad to hear that there has boen a manifest Improve
aient in tho crops since tho "arm weather bao regularly
aet in. Upon farms which have been worked and
nssnagod well, it ia said tbat the prospeot for crops of
' cors and cotton Is much better then it was s short time
ago. Where farms have been neglected, by the freed
men refusing to perform their contract-, the crops are,
of course, Inferior. Wheat is now bein cr harvested, and
it Is said that tho yield is better, generally, than was an
ti-Ipatod. The present and prospective prices of all
, kinds of produce should stimnlato farmers to employ
all their energy In the effort to make a good orep.
OUENTILU, S. C-Tho G loenville Mountaineer haa
, tbe following items.
The property claimed by the United States at the
State Works In this place, consisting of old cannon
wheels, <_ilni_ed guns, material for arms, Ac, was
i sold yeaterday at auction. Tbo sam bid was inconsider
able, but aa muob aa the caah piloe to be obtained for
' rather nieleaa lumber In theso peace times, ao-callod-If
Btevens k Co. will let it be even that much.
We ate gratified at being ab-. to state that President
Hammett his already inaugurated merum ros to stop
"tbe plundering of packsges" between Columbia end
tbe upper termini of the road. We are Inclined to think
tbat this great evil la already checked, and that here
after there will be as little complaint of stealing on tbe
Oreen ville and Columbia Railroad aa on soy other in the
,n. State, If not less
r __WB__B-, 8. 0--The Newberry Herald, of Friday

de following aopeal in behalf of those who were ren

AND-HSON, 8. O.-From the Intelligencer of ThnrBday
we copy the following:
We have to chroniole another exchange of troops in
the conduct of this Important (?) military post. The
It?tb Maine, or rather two companies ol thai Regiment,
on duty hero for the past six or eight week-, hove been
relieved and ordered to Charlea'ou to bo mustered out
out of s .vice. We learn that Co. "1," 8th Regular In
fantry, has supplied tho vacancy thus created.
In taking leave of the late garrison, simple justice de
mands that we shonld?make known thef-rorablo opinion
entertained by our citizens generally for their propriety
and good bobavlor during heir sojourn smongstus.
With rare exceptions, they were excellently behaved
and evinced the strictest regard fur discipline and good
conduct. Having served faithfully In tbe army, the 16th
Maine did not choose to obliterate their deeds of valor
by unnecessary tyranny and oppression, over their re
cent foes. And as one who dearly loved the cause of
the Sooth, we take pleasure in adding our testimony to
tbe soldierly bearing of these men wbllo quartered in
this community. Toe officer commanding, Brevet Brig.
Oen. B. B. Murray, waa known to fewcf our citizens
