COTTON-The very limited amount of Cotton on th?
market, and tho continually Increasing demands of sjfll
ors, has kept tho transactions of tbo past week wlthfi a
very narrow compass. From this causo Friday And
Saturday last passed without a bale being Hold// On
Munday tho non s of a probable pcaot in Europe made,
holders advance tbelr prices from 1 to 2a. *?**? lb., ?nd
some 60 bales woro said on that day, Middling being
quoted ?t86c. *r* lh., and a One lot of repacked selling
at 31c. ti lb. On Tuesday holders had still forth er lu
croasod tholr prices, and tho operations of the day wore
some 200 baleB of repacked Cotton at 29@82o. **.". lb.
On Wednesday there was but little inquiry, and we
conld loarn of no sales, bnyore holding off in order to
?wait further Intelligence in reference to peace in Eu
ropo before yloldlng to the advanced rates domsnded
by sellers, which were gonerally on the basis of 35c for
Low Middling and 38o. "ft Its. for Middling Cotton.
Yesterday a consldor&blo reduction In prloo took p?aos
in a few instances, and Boroo 40 bales of Cotton were
?old, of which 20 were Low Middling at 32o. "J", lb., and
10 Strict Middling at 30o. *# lb., but these sales were
exceptional and buyers were not able to go on at these
figures. Tho market being unsettled, we aro unable to
give reliable quotations.
Ska Island Cotton--There ha? been no trans
actions during the week in thlB oisas of Cotton, and we

BICE.-The receipts of the week comprise some 98
.tierces from Georgetown, 8. ("., and a few hundred bush
els of Bough Rice received by railroad from the inte
rior. Some holders' having to close out their stocks,
have had to submit to a decline ot 1 to lXo per lb un
der previous quotation?, in order lo effect sales, and we
learn of tranBact.ons in Ordinary Bice at Ile per lb.
Olson Bice, of a better quality, is ?till held at lix to
12o per lb, as In quality.
NAVAL STORKS.-Tho receipt? of Rouln since our

The receipts of Spirits Turpentine amount to 160 bbls.
The sales of Spirits wore about 450 bbls., part of wbloh
waa previous stock, superior packages bringing 61o, aud
Inferior packages 60c per gallon. Most ef this had to
pay the previous tax of 24o. per gallon. Some of the

market, and the European peace news, has seriously de
pressed the article, and it has fallen rapidly to about
$1 20 per bushel, lnclu lug bags, and even this price
could not be had for a large lot. Ordinary Maryland
White was sold some days sluoe, lu bulk, at $1 35 per
bushel weight; but the above-mentioned depressing
causes keep the market dull and heavy, and pi lees have
a receding tendency. Yesterday, White Maryland, In
bags, was selling at 11 40 to 1 43 per bishol, bsgs In

^Northern ports daring the week, and tbe market ha?
Vucoix dull, but holder? aro firm at previous prices, par
