and W. S. Brooks, implicate! in the murder of B. F.

JAMES ROBINSON'S Cbampiou Circus will com?
mence a three flays' carnival this afternoon up"n
Citadel Green. Should thc weather prove auspicious
there ls no doubt that Mr. Robinson will receive a
most liberal p itronage. So much has alrrady been
said in recrard to Mr. Robinson aud his circus, that
although their merits are great, there is no room left

THE G ENEiiAL SESSIONS.-Tbo jury chanted with the
case of the State vs. Jackson Richardson, Josiah
Richardson and Quash Happv alias Poor Roy Happy^
indicted for larceny, returned a verdict of guilty as
to the two first and not euiltv ns to the latter.
The timo of the ccurt was consumed during the
entire day in the tr.al of Dan Mack, J. Bailey, John
Bull, B. Drayton and Henr Bentley, for larceny.
These prisoners wore indicted tor 1 orcenv of cotton
from the gin house of Bon. Jna. Townsend, on Edis.
to Island, on the night of the 2d of December, 18C8.
They were defended by R. W. seymour and T B.
King, Esqrs., and after a hearing ot the testimony
tho jury returned a verdict ot guilty as to Jacob and
Henry Bailey and not guilty as to too rest. All the
prisoners were remanded, however, to answer to au
indictment of attempt to commit arson, which was
perpetrated at the same time and place.

same reference in the case of B. F.. Ellerbe, against
Jas. H Gooch. C. B Glover, assignee, was orderad
to give oail for S600O, with sureti s to be approved by
Registrar Carpenter. On tue peiidon ot A. C. Gar
lin,creditor, lora warrant of invo.untary bankruptcy
against Robert Ste wari, debtor, it was ordered that
thc debtor show cause on the -a J th of Marci why ho
should not bo declared a bankrupt. Tho petitions of
thc Relief Loan As-ocitition and others to establish
Hen in the case of Hut-on Lee, bankrupt, was refer?
red io Registrar Carociter, whose report was read
and confirme-1, and order of sale made. The case of
sundry libels against the owners ot the Grapeshot is
under consideration of tho Ju ?ge.

G. G. Kennedy, complained ol by his father as a

possession, and beiug unable to account for It eatis
factorily. Discharged.

eharged. Also. Ben Campbell, for same offence.
A brown goat, fouud tu tho streots contrary to city
ordinances, waa forfeited.
Richard Simms, colored, caught in tho premises
of Captain W. C. Corrie. Meeting-street, was sent to
the Houso of Correction for five days.
Martha Drayton, colo oj, arrested for the larceny

sheet, was disrharged alter giving up the goods.

INCENDIABA- ATTEMPT_Or> Friday nighUast,
about half past ten o'clock, nn attempt waa made to
set fire to tbe premises at the southwest corner ol'
Kin? and Warren-streets by ripping off the weather
boarding and putting pow.lev'and matches in the
opeiing. lt was lortunately discovered before the
place took fire. The diabolical deed was perpetrated
by a discharged soldier by the name o. Gary, who
bas been arrrvsted. Thc inducement for bim to
commit thc act was that he bad been told to leave
the boardh.g house, whore he bad been stayiug6ome
time without p-ying bi-? b'ard, and wheu forced to
q airhe stated that he would ruin all they had, and,

DIVES DROWNED.-On Saturday a white man,
known by tue name ot" "Polish John." was dtowned
at A dyer's South wharf, in endeavoring to recover a
keg of lead which had dropped overboard in placing
it in a vessel at the pier. The exact place where the
keg lay was ascertained, and a long pole waa pnt
down unt l it was fastened ia tbe mud; beside this
bo descendod. and succeeded in grappling the keg
with a pair of hooks. Tbe lead was s ifely raised to
tho deck, but (he divor was drowned, and his body
was not recovered until some limo aftc ward. It is
suppose! that he was- drawn under tho bull cf thc
v. ssel and waa unable to And thc pole by which to
ascend again.
