Sm.Ts TURPENTINE.-For the week Just ended
the market ror this article has shown more flrm
' -mes}, and under better advices rrom abroad for
the past few days the price here bas lui
rroved-closing on Wednesday With s?les at 47
cents per gallon for Southern packages. There
ls little or no stock offering, the bulk here being
held for foreign export, and arrival?, each day
have generally found sale upon receipt. To-day
(Thursday) the market ls firm, abu 47 cents has
been obtsined, at which lt closes wi'.h scarcely
any offering.
ROSIN.-During the week just close'i the market
for this article has ruled quite finn, eapeoially for
the lower and liner grades, on wrich there has
been a silent advance cn prevlors figures. Fot
the medium qualities the demand has not been so
good. In fact the transactions r ave been limited
In all kinds, owing mainly to mr agre arrivals and
want of stock. At the cluse of jnr inquiries there
ts a good demand for strained, ?1 85 being offered,
ann factors adding higher.
TAR-Has continued to be in moderate Inquiry
during the week, and all received has found sale

port, was detained at New York until Friday, 3d
instant.
The Wilmington (N C) Journal, of yesterday, re?
ports that Capt Price, of the steamship Lucille, at
that port from Baltimore on Thursday, s'ates that
he fell In with the Orig John Christan, from Per
nambuco for Philadelphia, laden with sugar, leak?
ing badly and rudder head gone; was taken nv
tow 2d inst. In coming over New Inlet bar, the
brig struck and theljawser parted, when the
steamer left her and came to the city. The reve?
nue cutler W H Seward has gone to the assistance
of the brig, and she will probably get off and reach
the city to-day.
