Miss Gunter, in Overton County,
Tennessee, killed two scoundrels who
had taken her old. father from his
house, and, after stripping him, were
whipping him most unmercifully.
She seized a hatchet and did her work
effectually. The scoundrels were
"loyal men." Mr. Gunter had been
on the Confederate side.
The removal of radical office holders
is making a great stir nmong politi?
cians at Washington. The rump
Congress is actually afraid to adjourn,
lest Johnson get the upper hand
before they re-assemble.
The French ship, Jean Arc, is now
at Annapolis, with 100 midshipmen,
who are there to witness the annual

The Boston Traveller announces
the arrival there of five cargoes of
lumber, over 500,000 feet in all, from
