H| BRESLAU-A WAR PRIZE.-The Breslau papers report: "Awealthy Jewish merchant, of this city, offered 100 thalers (?14 odd) to the Jewish soldier who .should first obtain the grade of officer by bravery on the battle-field; and fifty thalers to the Jewish soldier who" should capture a flag from the enemy. Both prizes were gained by Corporal Susskiud, (of the firm of Weiner & Susskind, of this city,) who, in the combat near Trautenau, on the 27th June, cap? tured a flag from the enemy, and for his boldness was forthwith promoted, by the Crown Prince, to the grade of officer." This incident attracted the more attention, as the flag was the identical one which, a century before, in the War of Seven Years, had been captured by the Austrians from the Prussians under Frederick the Great. A correspondent ,pf a Southern paper says of Wendell Thillips: His face is bloodless-more than bloodless-puttyish gray. It is des? titute of muscle, and those gallant apertures through which courage sports in battle, are here but toilet holes. It drops, it turns, it lifts, it wreathes, it shifts, it doubles up and down, and runs back when anybody offers him a hand, fearing a pull. ADVERTISING HIGH.-A tipsy loafer mistook a globe lamp with letters on it for the queen of night. *T am blessed," said he," "if somebody, hain't stuck an advertisement on the moon !" By the census of the city of Mobile, just completed, the population foots up 40,962 souls. Of this number, 28,000 are negroes, showing an in? crease of 6,800 within th? past six years. On visiting Texas, General Grego? ry wanted to see a copy of the laws of Texas. The lawyer opened his drawer and handed the General a large and handsome Bowie knife.
