Perhaps the ?most curious social phenomenon of modern civilization is the emigration of the Irish from Ireland-a fertile country, in close connection with the richest and most powerful island in the world. Tho Commissioners bf Emigration in .Ireland have just stated that the number of- those who left the island, from 18*7 to 1854, was 1,650,000; from the latter dat? to 18G2, 480,000, * and from 1862 to 1867, 520,000. In 1881, the population was 7,767,000 in round numbers; in 1841, it was 8,175,000. At that rate of increase, tho number in 1851 should have been about 9,000,000. It was only 6,574, OOO; for that interval included the famine and suffering so eternally disgraceful to the policy and pre? tensions of England. Between 1851 and 1861 the number had come down to 5,707,968-about 1,210,000 having emigrated in the same decade. lu seven years since 1861, the emigra? tion has amounted to 601,000. If the deorease by emigration continue in the ratio of the lust seven years, the population of Ireland-which was 5,658,000 in tho middle of 1867 would be 5,300,000in 1871. Itgreat ly exceeded that number ia 1821. In 1891, there might not be found enough of people in the island for tho Feniaus to ?wear by. I HAVE PATENTED, and now desire to introduce, an . Important improvement in the construction of ARTIFI? CIAL DENTURES, whereby the strength, reliability and facility of repair, pertain? ing to awaged plate work, is communicated to moulded motalic or vulcanizable baae. Streng Plate Teeth as firmly attached to the base as if soldered to swaged f?late, are. by thia process, substituted for hose specially designed for moulded base. By their use tho operator is left free to ex? ercise bis own Judgment in their arrange? ment, and finds himself no longer confined to tho sameness of the present style of blocks, or single teeth weakened by carv? ing for moulded work. No new appliances are required .in thia process. It ia easily acquired by anyone familiar with either moulded or swaged work. It gives to the operator confldenco in the reliability of bis cases, exempting him from the disappointment and per? plexity often attendant on his most faith? ful efforts. It renders partial cases as reli? able as fud sets, and, consequently, wiU tend to ameliorate the present deplorable practice of extracting every tooth, aound or unsound, which stands in the way of the latter. The method has beon thoroughly tested, and is now submitted to tho profession with tho assurance that it will bo found to fulfill all that ia claimed for it. Its rosnlta are highly artistio, very beautiful, and af? ford tho utmost satisfaction to operator and patient.
