Texas, recently ordered a judge to
continue a certain civil case, involv?
ing a question of heirship, and the
counsel on one side havo written to
President Johnson asking him to
prevent suoh interference. The
President has replied that he cannot
interfere, as his hands are tied by
the reconstruction laws, and that the
only person who can give them relief
is Gen. Grant.
<fl?he elevated railway in New York
city has been erected for the distance
of half a mile at the lower end of
Greenwich street, and the the road
having proved successful, both as re?
gards its construction and the ma?
chinery to be used ia its operation,
will be extended to the Northern end
of Manhattan Island.
Mr. and Mrs. Jones, convicted of
burglary at Joilet, Illinois, were mar?
ried a day or two previous, and will
spend an eight-year honey-moon in
the State prison.
AN ACT PROVIDING FOR THE NEXT GENERAL
"SEO. 10. All bar-rooms, saloons and
'other places for tho salo of liquors by
retail, shall be closed during the progress
of such election, and until 6 o'clock in the
morning of the day thereafter; and during
the time aforesaid the salo of all intoxicat?
ing drinks are prohibited. Any person
duly convicted, before a compotent court,
of a violation of this Scotion, shall bo
punished by a fine not exceeding $50, or by
imprisonment not exceeding six months,
or by both fine and imprisonment, in the
discretion of the court."
FURTHER.-All bar-rooms, saloons, and
other places for the salo of intoxicating
liquors, by retail, holding their licenses
from the city authorities, are hereby di?
rected to close their places of business at
C o'clock P. M., of NOVEMBER 2, and
remain closed until G o'clock A. M., of NO?
VEMBER 4. Also, the city authorities
? respectfully appeal to all persons dealing
in spirituous liquors to abstain from sales
by the quart or bottle, for immediate con?

would dictate; thereby materially assist?
