IMVOHTER or rai ScUIKOAM AROMATIC ScuNAvrs, 22 BEAVER STREET, NEW YOBK, NOV. 3, '68. 2b Wi? reopl? of the Southern Siatee. When the poro medicinal restorative, now so widely known aa WOLFE'S SCHIE? DAM SCHNAITS, waa introduced into the world, .under the endorsement of 4,000 leadlr.jr membera of tho medical profes? sion, aorae twenty yoars ago, ita proprie? tor waa well aware that it could not wholly escape the penalty attached to all new and useful preparation*. He, therefore, en dcavored to invest it with the strongest possible safeguard against counterfeiters, and to render all attempts to pirate it dif? ficult and dangerous. It was submitted to distinguished chemists for analysis, and pronounced by them tho purest spirit over manufactured. Its parity and properties having been thus ascertained, samples o' tho article were forwardod to 10,000 physi? cians, inclnding all the leading practition? ers iu tho United States, for purposes of experiment. A circular, requesting a trial of the preparation and a report of tho re? sult, accompanied each specimen. 4,000 of tho most eminent medical men in the Union promptly responded. Thoir opinions of tho nrticlo were unanimously favorable. Such ~ preparation, they said, u?d lung i been wanted by the profession, as iio reli? ance could be placed on the ordinary liquors of commerce; all of which were more or less adulterated, and, therefore, unfit for medical purposes. Thc peculiar excollonco and strength of thc oil of juni? per, which formed one of tho principal in? gredients of thc Schnapps, together with an unalloyed character of tho alcoholic clement, give it, in tho estimation of the I faculty, a marked superiority over every other diffusive stimulant as a diuretic, tonic and restorative. These satisfactory credentials from pro? fessional men of tho highest rank were published in a condeused form, and en? closed with each bottle ot tho Schnapps, as one of tho guarantees of its genuine? ness. Other precautions against fraud were also adopted; a patent was obtained for thc article, tho label was copyrighted, a/?c simile of tho proprietor's autograph signature was attached to each label and* cover, his name and that of tho prepara? tion were embossed on the bottles, and the corlis were scaled with his private seal. No :trtiele had ever been Bold in this coun? try under the narnu of Schnapps prior to the introduction of Wolfe's Schiedam Aro? matic Schnapps, in 18?1; and thc label was deposited, aa bis trade mark, in the United States DistrictCourt for the Southern Dis? trict of New York during that year. It might be supposed, by persons unac? quainted with the daring character of the pirates who prey upon tho reputation of honorable merchants, by vending delete? rious trash under their name, that thc protections so carefully thrown around theso Schnapps would bavo precluded the | introductions and sile of counterfeits. They seem, however, only to have stimu? lated tbcrapaeityof impost?is. The trade mark nf the proprietor has been stolen: the endorsement which his Schiedam Aromatic Schnapps alone received from the medical profession has beivn claimed by mendacious humbugs; his labels and bottles have been imitated, L'n advertise? ments paraphrased, his circulars copied, and, worse than all, dishonorable retailers, after disposing of the genuine contents of his bottles, have tilled them up with com? mon gin, the most deleterious of all liquors, and thus made his name and brand a cover for poison. Thc public, the medical profe:,->i'>n and the si k, for whom thc Schiedam Aromatic Schnapps is prescribed as a remedy, aro equally interested with the proprietor in the dotection and suppression of these ne? farious practices. Thc genuine article, manufactured nt tho establishment of thc undersigned, in Schiedam, Holland, is dis? tilled from a barley of thc finest quality, and flavored with an essential extract of thc berry of tho Italinn juniper, of une? qualled purity. By a process unknown in tho preparation of any other liquor, it is freed from every acrimonious and corro? sive element. Complaint:! have becu received from the leading physicians and families in tho Southern States, of tho salo of cheap imi? tations of tho Schiedam Aromatic Schnapps hfthoso markets; and travelers, who aro in tho habit of using it aa an anti? doto to thc baneful influence of unwhole? some river water, testify that cheap gin, put up in Schiedam bottles, is frequently palmed off upon tho unwary. Tho agentB of tho undersigned bavo been requested to instituto inquiries on tho aubjoct, and to forward to hun tho names of such parties aa they may ascertain to bo engaged in tho atrocious system of deception. In conclusion, the undersigned would Bay that he has produced, from undor the banda of tho most distinguished men of aoienco in Amorica, proofs unanswerable of tho purity and modiciual excollonco of tho Schiedam Aromatic Schnapps ; that ho baa expended many thousand dollars in surrounding it with guarantees and safe? guards, which ho designed should protect tho public and himself against fraudulont imitations; that ho has shown it to bo the only liquor in the world that can bo uni? formly depended upon as unadulterated; that ho has challenged investigation, analysis, comparison, and experiment in all its formB; and from ovory ordeal the preparation which bears his namo, seal and trade mark, has como off triumphant. Ho, t horoforo, feels it a duty he owes to his follow-oitizons generally, to tho medical profession and tho sick, to donounco and oxpose tho Charlatans who counterfeit thoa" evidences of identity, and ho calla upon the press and the public to aid him in his efforts to romody so groat an evil. Tho following letters and certificates, from the loading physicians and chemists of this city, will provo to the reader that all goods sold by tho undersigned aro all thoy aro represented to be. UDOLPHO WOLFE. I I feel bound to say, that I regard your ' Schnapps ns being, In every respect, prc eminently pun-, and deserving of m?dical patronage. At all events, it ls tho purest poesiblo article ot Holland Oin, heretofore unobtainable; and, a? such, may bc safely prescribed by physicians. DAVID L. MOTT, M. DEAR SIR: I have submitted to chemical analysis two bottles of Schiedam Schnapps, which I tool; from a fresh package in your bouiled warehouse, and lind, as before, that tht! spirituous liquor is free from in? jurious ingredients or falsification; that it has the marks of being agod and not re? cently prepared by mechanical admixture of alcohol aud aromatics. Respectfully, FRED. F. MAY KR, Chemist. NEW YORK', Tuesday, May 1. Udulpho Wolfe, Esq. DEAII Sm: The want of pure Wines und Liquors, for medicinal purposes, has been long felt by the profession, and thousands of lives have been sacrificed by the usc of adulterated articles. Delirium tremens, and other diseases of the brain and nerves, so rife in this country, are very raro in Europe; owing,in a great degree, to the difference in tire purity of the spirits sold. Wc have tested the several articles im? ported and sold by you, including your Oin, which you sell under the name of Aro? matic Schiedam Schnapps, which we cou sider justly entitled to the high reputation it has acquired in this country; and, from your long experionco as a foreign impor? ter, your Rottled Wines and Liquors should meet with the same demand. We would recommend you to appoint some oT the i espectable apothecaries in different parts of the city au agent" for the sale of your Brandies and Wines, where tho profession eau obtain the haine when needed for medicinal purposes. Dr. Cumming, of London, says: "Tho assurance of life is one of the moat Christian things that I know, for what is it? It is taking the load that would CRUSH ONE FAMILY and spreading it over twenty thousand families: so that a mero drop lights upon each, instead of tho overwhelming torrent falling upon ono. It seems to mc a beautiful illustration of beariug one another's burdens. And, therelore, let every young man entering upon life, every head of a family, whether high or low, set his house in order so far aa to assure his life." Thousand- of widows and orphans live to attest tho divine beneficence of LIFE INSURANCE. Without its protecting ajgis, many of them would, to-day, bo beg? gars flupon the streets, or occupants of poor-houses and penitentiaries. No man eau foretell what will be his circumstances at tho time of his death. Tho rich man of to-day dies tho pauper of to-morrow, and tho family, delicately reared, becomo tho unprepared victims of dire Want, with her train of countless evils. Such a result is inpossible, with a policy of Lifo Insurance. It, indcod, offers the only absolutely safe investment which can be made for the benefit of one's family and of his own old ago. All other investments may result in loss or ruin. If all would insure, who can calculato tho immense suffering and crime which the world would bc spared!
