A MoBSBXi FOB LITTLE FOLKS.-There
are some of you who are much given to
noise. . You burst into tho house like
young tornadoes, clatter pell-mell, hel?
ter-skelter up tho steps, alam doors and
raise a general row. Can't you practice
coming in softly, speakiug quietly, and
sitting down without squirming and
fidgeting? Do you suppose it's no trou?
ble for the housemaid to get the mud
from off tho legs of the ohuirs which
came from twisting your feet around tho
legs of the chair? It is a protty piece of
business when a little girl's bonnet has
to be sewed on her head before she will
wear it when she goes out to play; but it
is not BO bad as it is fer a boy to be al?
ways keeping his hands in his pockets.
If you don't stop putting your hands in
your pockets and keeping them there
when you are walking, you will get BO
round-shouldered and so in the habit of
stooping and poking your neok out when
you walk, that your own mother won't |
know yon. There is a boy around the
corner who is always throwing orange
peel on the a?veinent. Somebody will
slip up on a piece of it some fine day and
fall down and hurt himself badly. What
will that bpy around the corner do then?
Little girls never throw orange peel on
the pavements. It is always the boy
around the corners, who is also much
given to spitting, a vile habit he caught |
from another boy <r?ho "makes believe"
he chews tobacco, which he doesn't, be?
cause it will always make him sick, thank
goodness!
A young man onoe pieked np a sover?
eign lying in the road. Ever afterward,
as he walked along, he kept his eyes I
steadily on the ground, iii the hope of
finding another. And in the course of a '
long life, be did pick np, at different |
times, a good amount of gold and silver.
Bat all these days, as he was looking for
them, he saw not that heaven was bright
above bim and nature was beautiful
aronnd. He never once allowed his oyes j
to look up from the mnd and filth in
which he sought the treasure, and when
he died, a rich old man, he only knew
this fair earth of ours as a dirty road to
piok up money as you walk along.
"Boys," said Uncle Peter, as he ex?
amined the eye of the beast, "I don't
see but one reason why that mare can't
trot her mile in three minutes." They
gathered around to hear this oracular
opinion, and one inquire J: -'what is it?"
"Why," he replied, "the distance is too
great for so short a time."
