John Kerr and other citizens of Caswell, arrested by Kirk, when Kirk ordered him to leave, or he would have him fired on. William? son made a return to tho Chief Justice, in accordance with tho facts. The Chief Justice decided that the writs had not been properly served-first, because Williamson was not appointed by tho Chief Justice to make such service; se? cond, being a citizen of Caswell, ho was au insurgent; therefore, ho could not servo the writ. Tho Chief Justice re? affirms tho opinion that the habeas cor? pus was not suspended, and ordered the Marshal of the Supreme Court to go to Caswell aud servo the writs. A telegram from Hillsboro, says Kirk's men arrested thirty citizens of Alamance, to-day; they hung William Patton, a respectable citizen, three times -cutting him down each time, to make him confess who murdered a negro out law.
