GEORGIA TO BB RECONSTRUCTED AND AGAIN PUT UNDER MILITARY RULE.-A spooial to the Louisville Courier-Journal, dated Washington, Ootober 9, says: Tho leading Government organ of tba city the Washington Chronicle-publishes daily editorial articles, telegrama, Seo,, in respoot to Georgia, charging that the late Democratic minority of 60,000 in that State was tho result of intimidation of negroes. There was no disturbance envo nt two points, and the Democratic gains aro general. But though no proof jB adduced in support of the charge be? yond tho refusal of the whites to let themselves be driven from the polls at Macon, it ia believed by well-informed persons that there is o serions design in Administration circles to throw out the electoral vote of Georgia and to subject that State to a third military reconstruc? tion, in order to further the designs, now only partly accomplished, of Simon Cameron and Secretary Delano upon the Georgia railroads. Them will he an en? deavor to work up public opinion so as to furnish exouse for these acts and for exolnding the members of Congress to be eleoted iu November next until the organization of tho next House of Rep? resentatives th all have been perfected. Federal troops will probably be sent to Georgia and Louisiana, with directions to back up the carpet-baggers in any sharp practice at the elections. The feeling agaicat Georgia iu Government oiroles and among the Grant men in this oity is intensely bitter. < ? ? Chicago celebrated the first anniversa? ry of its great fire most characteristical? ly. No Backcloth, no ashes, but a pro? cession, brass bands, newspapers in re? built offices and with sixteen-page sup? plements, old firma taking possession of new trade palaces, and the Board of Trade formally installed in a magnificent building that outshines in splendor the one whioh went down in the great fire of 1871. Novelty is possible even in so common? place a thing as murder. Mr. Smith, of Oregon, took several chances in a raffle for a lady's .watch, but having thrown all bat one and being unlucky, he asked Mr. Miller to throw that for him. This throw won tho watch, but as Miller bad won it for him, Smith let him have it to give to bia wife. Miller gave the gift to her and now he has killed Smith for making his wife presents. A GOOD SHOT.-A covey of partridges alighted on a fence near the residence of Mr. John Scaley, on Broad street, io tho lower part of the city, on yesterday morning, when Mrs. Scaley shot, with a double-barreled gnn, and killed eleven of them and wounded one. Several ladies and gentlemen witnessed this unusual occurrence. Mrs. Sealey is fifty-six years of age.-Columbus Sun, Gili. Standing near Finley's Ford, on Fish? ing Creek, Cheater County, on the plan? tation of Mr. J. K. Wilson, is a chestnut white oak that measures twenty-five feet in circumference two feet above the ground. It tapers up regularly, and towers among its companions aa a monarch of the forest. A book-binder said to his wife at their wedding: "It seems now we are bound together, two volumes in one, with clasps." "Yes," observed one of bis guests, "ono side highly ornamented Turkey moroooo, and tho other plain calf."_ Fall Champagne-Bulletin No. 2. CONCERNING SPIRITS And Where they Mott Abound.
