Governor Chamberlain.?We think
that some of our own journals have se?
lected a very inopportune moment, to
say the least of it, to cast slurs on the
character of the Governor, and to express
doubts of his sincerity in urging on the
reform movement. It would seem to
matter very little to us what may bo the
motives of the champion who espouses
our cause and fights our battles. The
solo and important question is, is he on
our side, and can wo find a better man
to do tho work? As thcWinnsboro Xeirs
well remarks, "Governor Chamberlain is
a necessity." We need a Republican to
reform the party, and those editors are
aiding to mar a good work who impugn
tho motives of the Governor and make
light of his efforts. They lend aid and
comfort to tho enemy, though perhaps
unwittingly.
