THE NEW OPERA HOUSE CURTAIN

It Is passing strange that none of
our local scribes have devoted a
chapter to the new curtain at the
opera house The old one which was
a tolerably faithful representation of
the water front of Jacksonville had
been there so long that some of the
middleaged men and women of our
village had learned their a b cs
from the signs that decorated its anti
puated and dilapidated margin Art
and commerce are harmoniously allied
not blended on the new curtain which
shows a bridge over a river with a
boat on the shore and mountains be
yond the stream The bridge we sup
pose Is the bridge that the wise ones
advise us not to cross until we come
to it since that structure can only
be used in mimicry or advice neither
of which are ever taken seriously The
river by the same token should be
the Beautiful Danube and the hills
beyond the Blue Alsatian Mountains
Probably the Castles in Spain are to
be discerned from their tops We cant
imabine what the boat is unless it is
the one Leander didnt have when he
tried to swim the Hellespont As for
the advertisements on the curtain it
Is needless to speak of them Most
of them are in the Star those that are
not should be

A C Binkley grand master of the
Odd Fellows of Florida arrived from
Hawthorne this afternoon and will
meet the members of Tolula Lodge to

is a guest at the Ocala House and was
shown some of the attractions of the
city this afternoon by Messrs Bryan
and Bittinger He expressed himself
as being very much pleased at what he

tors for some weeks to the pleasant

terday for their home in Ohio

sprung into manhood got married to
