given above, every "drop" of smoke you

TANSEY AND PEACHES.
A writer in the New Vork Tribune rec
ominends the sowing tunsey about the
roots of peach trees, as a means of pre
serving them. lie siys thai he once
knew a large peach tret-, which was
more thao forty years old, uhil? several
generations of similar trees in the same
soil, iad passed away. This led to ex
amination, and a bed of tansey was dis
covered about the trunk. It was natural
ly inferred that the preservation of this
tree tobUilh a green old age was attribu
table to the presence of this plant. It
was decided to try ti e experiment on
others, and accordingly, a few of the
roots were placed about each of the otlipr
trees on the piemises. some of which gave
signs of decay. Not only has itpreserv.
ed for sever.! 1 years, but n novateJ those
that wpre unsound. The odor of this
plant, he says, doubtless keeps off the
insect enemies of this kind of tree, and it
would Jiayc the same eff. ct on others, as;
the plum, apple -and pear, a3 well as" the
elm, sycamore, and other ornamental
trees. . - - -

WAEAT CROP OF OHIO.
..." We have variously setm it estimated,
that tho wheat crop of Ohio, this year,
w ill "amount to between 16,000,000 and
24,0Jll,00ll bushels. The highest of these
estimates is fir below whul we accept
for a. full crop fjr Ohio. We have given
Tver 30,oOJ,000 bushels in a year, and
tiiui loo wunoui a lull crop. We are
glad to see farmers rejoice in the present
prospect, anJ they may call it what they
please good, better or best ; hut if our
wheat fit-Ids are traced as they should be,
Mid a they might be, we would chroni
cle a jicldof 40.000,000 bushels, and
theu not cell it an extraordinary crop.
We take nothing Iss for a full crop' of
