and somewhat more. The stairway and
passages were crowded nearly the whole
evening with people, principally boys,
who. we are sorry to say, not being able
to hear the scholars, got up some noise
and confusion among themselves, which
was not in the bills. The exercises oc-

Warren Brass Band kindly gave its a'd,

by the scholars, were given. These, in
termingled with declamations, dialogues,
reading of papers, fcc, constituted the
programme for the evening. We cannot

Portable Grain Mill.
Among the many improvements which '
have lately been made in mils of various !
kinds, we know of none, which seems
more likely to be of value to the commu- j
nity at large, and especially to farmers, ;
than Leavitts Portable Mill, which hej
has christened Young America. The :
want of a portable grain mill, which :
could be furnished at a price which '
wou'd bring it within the reach of almost
every man. has long been felt severely,!
by fanneis. Especially have fac.l.ues
for grinding corn in the ear, been need-
ed. It is a well known fact, proven by j
chemical analysis, as well as the often
repeated lest of actual practical expe- j
lience, that a large portion of nutrhive '.
matter is found in the cob, and that corn ;
actually worth forty per -.ent. more, j
for stock, when ground in the ear, than
when fed without grinding. j
At the Ohio State Fair, at Columbus, j
this mill was subjected to he severest j
test, and the most rigid practical investi-
gations, by the awarding commiitee, j
nnd by farmers from all pails of the j
Stat, and although many other good ;
were in competition, the first pre- j
mium was awarded to the Young Amer- i
ica Mill. This mill can grind from 16 I
to 20 bushtls of ears of corn per hour, j
and is so co,structed that it can, bvat
slight change of movement, be made to ;
irrind shell corn sufficiently fine for bread. I
It is simple in its operation, and after the I
teeth have become worn from lorg use. j
isso constructed that they caa be replaced!
