FROM NEW YORK.
[Correspondence of the Ohio Statesman.]
NEW YORK, Nov. 13, 1868.
Tbe reappearance of the sun to-day.
aflerqjj(l0g lipr-roJfefence,
giyes promise that we are to liave at
least one more eood spell ot weatner
before the final crash which Elder Snow
predicts: and the cool bracing air that
now begins to pinch is only the forerun
ner of the frigid winds that will soon
whistle through -the1 leafless branches
and around the sharp corners, making
the nose tingle and the ears smart, and
making a Host ot lazy people into lively
actors. Business begins to look op.
Light goods hang heavy on the haber
dashers' hands, and furs and j wf oerrf
and other warmth preefvlag fkhrfca
grow hourly in demand. Overcoats,
even of a pattern of long ago, are sought
tor and easily found. Flannels display
themselves openlyj the ifi4sW the
furnishing stores, Iobj woolen e.oel-ings
and short wooleu socks, and comforts,
and tippets, and ear muffs, and wrist-
warmers, and tnick gloves, appeal coax
ingly to the passer by to come in and
purchase: and in short, everything that
man has wrought to keep his leiiowman
warm with, is put forward in a most en
ticing way and made to warn him that a
BUar-p-winter va hard oipon his heels.
$!&UeJsmfiix4nhappy, and the
good fellows who furnish ua with that
creamy summer dish, which .Bridget says
is "baked in a cowld oven," have no
thanco offer ofjthjB change, and so
mj&gtfttferal growling away down in
subterranean corners among the salt
boxes and milk-cans, and cream-freezers.
This and other evidences of dissatisfac
tion which one witnesses every day
convince me that there is perhaps a limit
to the power of Providence tor it
surely cannot make everything to suit
everybody.

Wednesday night, about 200 members
De'mg in attendance. Of course th

but the business of the hour was, for the
most part, conducted with order and
ability. These meetings of the Asso

tbe gallant representatives of the morn

tbem are always assigned the duty of
reporting the proceedings the ladies are
never annoyed at their presence. The
city editors of the aforesaid journals

tlemen return to the office, and the prin
ters grumble a little because they are
kept waiting for copy. This is some
what odd, too, for the meetings adjourn
at ten o clock and copy is not impera
tively demanded before midnight.
Yesterday morninV at 21 o'clock. 1
brutal assault was made upon one of tbe
Sun editors as he was returning home
from his office. The three ruffians who
made the attack, seemed to have no de
sign on the editor's pocket, but simply
desired to "punish" him for fun : but

about to enter into the dispute when a
policeman appeared, and he took to his
heels, busv-aubEeqgeiU captured
The other two were not arrested, because
the guardian of the city's peace was not
sure that tbey were to blame.
Among the novelties introduced since
my last letter are the two-wheeled ve

novel vehicle, wiLtits two wheels on
