Shortly after midnight Turtle creek overflowed its banks between the boroughs of Turtle creek and Wilmer ding and water covered tracks of the United traction line to the depth of a foot. The cellars of 5o houses were beginning to fill with water shortly before 1 o'clock. At this hour several feet of water Is rushing over the ice in the Alle gheny river, practically all the way from New Kensington to Verona. If the volume of water continues to in crease Twelve Mile and Fourteen Mile islands will be covered and Springdale. Cheswick and Sylvan will be under water by daybreak. Fremont, 0., Jan. 21.-The lower portions of Fremont are undler water. the result of the freshet in the San dusky river and the teorming of an ice gorge below the city. Many houses are surrounded by water and the occupants are moving out. The Wheeling & Lake Erie tracks are sub merged. At Green Springs. Lottie Perin, a school girl. was drowned while crossing a creek. Wheeling, W. Va.. .Ian. 24.-The crest of the flood swell was reached this afternoon when the stage was 44 feet 2 Inches. Pully one-third of the homes In the city were wholly or par tially inundated. and a sharp fall in temperature, with the resultant for mation of ice. accompanied by the shutting off of natural gas in the flood district, has caused a great deal of suffering. Nearly all mills and factories are on the river front and are flooded and the damage to them will he the most severe. In many instances the resumption of work will be delayed for days or weeks, and hundreds of men will be temporarily out of em ployment. The weather remains cold and many churches and halls have been thrown open for the accommodation of those who are suffering. The freight and passenger traffic of the railroatds along the river is still tied up. None of the depots can b, reacheld.
