WEDNESDAY EVENING, MAY 25. Mrs. Gordon's little boy of Cairo, 111., acted strangely one morning a week ago and was put to bed. Suddenly be called to his mother and said: "Papa has come back." "That is foolish talk, Charley," said his mother; "your papa is dead and cannot come back." "But he's sitting on your chair tcere and laughing at j*ou," said the boy. Thinking that the child was becom? ing delirious Mrs. Gordon sent for a doctor, but while the messenger was absent the little fellow said : "Papa tells me that John won't find the doctor at home, and that you must now kiss megoodby." A moment later the child became unconscious and soon died, while the messenger on his re? turn reported that the physician was out of town. An English experimenter finds that, con tiiiry to general opinion, a growth of ivy over a house renders the interior entirely free from moisture; the ivy extracts every possible particle of moisture from wood, brick or stone for its own sustenance, by means of the tiny roots, which work their way into even the hardest stone. If bilious, or auilering from impurity of blood, or weak lungs, and fear of consump? tion (scrofulous disease of the lungs), take Dr. Pierce'8 "Golden Medical Discovery," and it will cure you. Winhlow's Soothino Sybup, for chil? dren teething, is the proscription of ono of the best female nurses and physicians in the United States, and has been used for forty years with never-failing success by millions of mothers for thoir children. During the process of teething its value is incalculable. It relieves the child from pain, cures dysentery and diarrhoea, griping in the bowola, and wind-colic. By giving health to tho child it rests tho mother. Price 25 cents a bottla. mv5-ly7M.W&r DEMOCRATIC TICKET. It is always welcomed in the household, while in ths counting room and workshop il bas become invaluable. The Gazette has better facilities t,.r ob? taining news than any paper outside of the national capital. Situated as it is so close to the great centre of news, iL enjoys daily the benefit of the Associated Press dig patches from every part of the world ; hence its patrons can read from its columns in the evening whal has transpired that day in every portion of our own domain as wbll a froni every part of the habitable glolic Consequently it is au every day occurrence ?for the GAZETTE to publish telegrams from the various European capitals twelve and fifteen hours earlier than the morning |>a pers. Another feature that serves to make the GAZETTE n great desideratum with wer chants is its afternoon market reports from New York, Baltimore, Chicago and other centres. The local department furnishes a full and complete history of everything that occurs n and near tho city, and this feature will, as ever, receive careful attention. Correspondence from Washington, Ricl mond and every section of the State, Is pub? lished regularly, and all events of inters il occurring within the bounds of the Com monwealth are to bo found in the columne of the Gazette. The Gazette'b circulation is steadily \v. creasing, especially among people w'10 con? sult its advertising columns before purchas inc. That this is self-evident may be infer? red from the fact that a large country edi? tion?nearly as large as the daily--is sent all over this section of country three tiuw-. a week, and is read by thousands, moat ot whom send here or to contiguous cities to make purchases. The advantages of ad? vertising in the Gazette are, therefore, ap? parent. BATE? OF ST/B8CBIPTT0N. Daily Gazette, per annum, ? - ? $G0O rri-weekly Gazette, for mmUy, ? 4?
