Offlolal P«p«r o« the County. M. r. 1(1U.KB, Editor ud Ttrma ta^o a Year. Si.oo for Six Months. THURSDAY, JULY 3, 188#. THK OUTLOOK. The prospect of a "boom" for Wor thington and Nobles county Is just now excellent. The front end of this boom will strike us this coming fall if one or two "Ifs" are realized: If the present promise of a bountiful crop is fulfilled, especially of a. good corn crop, the reputation of the South west will be permanently established. The Land Hunter is sure to scent good crops and follow the scent as unerring ly as the grasshopper does when hunt ing a meal. If the B. C. R. & N. begins opera tions north from WorUiington this fall, even if no more is done than to locate the line, the future of Worthington as a railroad centre will be considered a settled matter. If—and this is a pretty sure one—the St. Paul jobbers, newspapers, etc., keep up the work they have begun with such a splendid spurt, we can count on their heli) hereafter to make the advantages of this magnificent Blue Grass, Yellow Corn and Fat Beef region known. It would not surprise us to see a Boom, with a big B, a-genuine boom, one of the kind that comes to stay, not a Bladder Boom that swells up only to burst, but a good, solid, robust influx of settlers and capital. THE CROPS. Crop reports from nearly every part of the Northwest are very encouraging. "Never better" is the general verdict as to wheat, oats, llax and corn. About New Ulm and one or two points, how ever. corn is said to IK* backward. Gen erally. the report is that crops are from a wek to two weeks ahead of former years and harvest will be that much earlier. Here in Nobles county the prospect for a corn crop is as good as ever known, and some farmers tell us the prospect is better than ever. So far the promise is like that of 1877 only bet ter. Following are the latest crop reports along the \V. & S. F. road: Sioux Falls.—Crops looking fine and doing well. Prospects never better. Weather favorable. Salem.—Crops of all kimls never look ed tetter. lleceut heavy rain put ev crything in linu shape Valley Spring?.—Crops doing better. Brandon.—Crops doing well. Wea ther favorable Doon.—Small grain could not look better. Corn is looking much better than it has for several years. Rock Rapids.—Crops of all kinds in splendid condition. Rye will he ready to harvest in about a week. Luverno.—Crops of all kinds look fa vorable, the late rains pushing ihem rapidly forward. Adrian.—Crops doing well. Rushmore.—Crops looking well.— Prospect for good yield. Flax looking better than for years. RAILROAD NEWS. The Watertown Courier says that grading is being actively pushed on the B. C. R. & N. from Sibley to 25 miles the other side of Elkton, and track lay ing is going on at the rate of a mile a day between Lake Park and Sibley. Also that the survey of the Wiscon sin, Minnesota & Pacific is about com pletsd to Watertown, and that the manager says they will lay track at the rate of forty miles a month after July 1st until Watertown is reached.. The same paper says: Mr. Cook has driven through along the Burlington survey from Lake Park, Iowa he says the work is progressing finely all the way, that more than five hundred men and three hundred teams are engaged on the line between this place and Sibley. He says the line will be completed and in operation by Oct. 1st, 1884. McADOO ABOUT NOTHING. The drama of McAdoo About Noth ing was enacted the other day in Con gress. McAdoo, of N. J., had a speech printed in the Congressional Record which he never delivered in the House. In it he embodied a statement that John A. Logan owned 80,000 acres of land. Hence there was a play in sever al acts. Logan's fiiends denied. Lo gan himself confessed to owning sever al acres in Illinois, but not a hundredth part of what was charged. HON. J. B. WAKBFJELD RKNOMINA TKD. Congressman Wakefield was renomi nated by the Second District Republi can Convention which met at Mankato on Thursday last. It was so generally conceded that Gov. Wakefield had made an able and efficient member that his renomination was a foregone con clusion and it was done by acclama tion. A list «f the delegates in attendance and the resolutions adopted will be found on the iuside of this issue. THESE ARE SOLID FACTS.
